Hi all - you guys are such a wealth of knowledge, I'm hoping you can give me some advice.
I'm about 3 months pregnant and am already begninning to see signs of "pregnancy mask" - hyper-pigmentation on my face. Any products or skin care advice you recommend to reduce appearance and prevent new pigmentation? Anyone tried the Decleor Whitening line? I'm tempted since it's a "special" on EDS right now.
Also - any great prevention products for stretch marks?? |

Hi Peanut,
I can't give you much advice except SUNSCREEN. But, just want you to know that my daughter had the darkest pregnancy mask I have ever seen. She had it with both her boys. After she delivered it totally went away.
If anyone has any suggestions I will keep watching this post as I know she wants more children. She certainly would want to know any suggestions too.
Congratulation!!!! Is this your first baby? |

Thanks Winnie - good to know the "mask" may go away after delivery. I'm prone to pigmentation spots on my face already so I figured I would have trouble if I ever became pregnant. I think I might try the Decleor Whitening line. I currently use the Hydra-floral creme as well as Decleor cleanser, toner and Neroli oil and have been really happy w/the brand. I'll let you know how I like the whitening line once I try.
This is my first baby and as if all the changes to my body aren't bad enough - now my face is being affected too! Ugh. |

Peanut,
My daughter also had pigmentation problems before pregnancy. Then, the mask. Believe it or not, her face is totally even toned now. She did nothing special. Her youngest is now 8 months.
Good luck with the product! Let us know if it helps.
If you still are bothered by the mask you can use a mineral based makeup. Jane Iredale has an excellent line. My daughter used JI and it did a nice job of helping her skintone match her neck.
There are many informed people on this forum. Keep checking back for some great advice. I have learned so much here. |

Congratulations, Peanut! Since you probably wouldn't want to use chemicals on your skin while pregnant (like Retin-A or Hydroquinone), it seems like you might have some luck with a couple of other ingredients that are good for lightening up hyperpigmentation: kojic acid and licorice root. Of course, there's C serums as well, which help too, with lightening the dark areas. Glycolic acid peels can help quite a bit as well but I do not know if you can get them while you are pregnant. I, too, have the dark mask while pregnant, but it did go away to a great extent -once I quit nursing. I had to use C plus Retin-A though to get rid of the "beard" that was stubbornly sticking around along my jawline. |

You and me have the same problems, I too am pregnant, but this is my second child. My first pregancy mask was horrible. I use to have a flawless complexion thats what people say but ever since my first son I had pretty bad complexion. I started to get hyperpigmention on my face and my neck, underarms, stomach nad other parts got dark. I started to cry. People told me it would go away and not to worry. I think what made it worst was that I just came back from Hawaii and I had a tan so with all that pigmenation put together it looked pretty bad. So yes after I had my first son it started to go away, but soon enough I got pregnant again. I've been researching for hyperpigmenation to go away as well. People here in this forum is really cool and they told me to try dermcare bleaching soap with no HQ in pristines world on ebay also I usewww.Godivaskincare.com and yes it really does help lighten the skin, it contains licorice extract which is safe for pregnancy, I think u should try it. Also avoid sun exposure too much while pregnant it really makes the mask worst. Always use sunblock when going outdoors, because your skin is extra sensitive while your pg. I recommend using a physical sunblock like shiseido spf 55 whicch contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide which fully shileds your skin from uva and uvb rays. Chemical sunblocks that dont contain these ingredients make your body produce melanin(color) to block the uv rays, whateever u use is up to u but I prefer physical. Well good Luck on your Preganacy and congrats! |

Thanks PG123! You know, it hadn't occured to me, but just like you, I had just returned from a trip to Hawaii also about 2 weeks before I got pregnant! I'm sure that is contributing to my pigmentation. I'm usually really good about staying out of the sun (fairly easy to do in Seattle) but I admit I was a sun-goddess in Hawaii and now I'm paying for it!
Thanks for the tip on Godiva products. I'm going to look into them since it sounds like they don't have harsh chemicals so would be good to use during pregnancy.
Sooo, since you've been through this before - have you found any good products for stretch marks? I've heard just plain old olive-oil works well - but something about slathering myself up w/olive oil from the kitchen cupboard isn't appealing. I want something that feels a bit more pampering - but effective! |

I have heard that rose hip oil is good for preventing/erasing stretch marks. I think Neal's Yard makes a product with it in it. You can also buy the oil directly from either gardenofwisdom.com or fromnaturewithlove.com. There's also Strivectin, which was made for stretchmarks inthe first place before they started promoting it for facial wrinkles. |

I used pure vitamin e oil 2-3x a day for both of mine and only got 3 very small marks and both of em weighed in at nearly 9lb, so it's not like they were small! Also re preg mask, wear sunscreen and keep out of the sun generally. I personally would be loathe to use products for lightening the skin whilst pregnant |

HOw funny that you just came from hawaii and got pg too I think its the weather out there it make you fertile the same thing happened to my sister as well. But anyhow about the stretch marks I need help myself, my babies are too big I use to only weigh 123 lb 5'5" and I gained up to 186 pounds and got stretch marks on my butt my tummy my legs, My son was born 11 lb 7oz and 23 in long he ruined me. But I tried using like cocoa butter oil and cocoa butter, I didn't get stretch marks until I was 9 months, but I wouldn't recommend it cuz It didn't work for me, either that I just got too Big. I read articles on Magia Bellawww.magiabella.com but never tried it maybe you should check it out. Oh yeah try not get to Big unless u can't help it like me. all that weight gain is of course what causes it. |
