I've managed to find a post on here form someone asking how to lighten the colour of their lips but it didn't really answer my question as this person was male lol!

My lips are a really red and I hate them. I've tried putting a bit of foundation under my lipgloss to make them look better. This works at first, but then it starts to dry out my lips and looks horrible.

Can anyone suggest a good way of making my lips look lighter with make up etc?

I've tried the brushing my lips/lemon juice stuff etc but nothing is working.

Many thanks,

Abi x

There is a lipstick base by Guerlain called Lip Lift (I think it's been recently reformulated and renamed Kiss Kiss Lip Lift) that is supposed to be great at helping cancel out your natural lip color and making your lipstick last. It's gotten lots of good reviews on MUA.

I have very dark lips too...I guess my solution has been to go for a clear gloss, or a lipstick that compliments them, rather than fighting their color. It's nice to wear lip balm but look done up, I think, but I can understand wanting them to just be less loud! when I want to play them down, I usually make sure they're moisturized in some kind of balm/lotion, then I use a liquid concealer (usually something you'd put under your eyes or over a blemish, so it's opaque, but matches your skintone) on them very lightly, blending into my skin around my lips. I then dust that lightly with a little bit of powder to set it and then cover it with the lipstick I want. Sadly, I think the easiest everyday thing is to just find more neutral lipsticks that will play up your lips instead of hiding them. I like Jane Iredale gloss in raspberry or sometimes I use the "Just Gloss" which makes me look like I put on lipgloss with color. HTH!
