I'm having some sculptra injected in a week's time. What's best way to stop bruising? have heard taking arnica helps and took it last tome but only on day - didn't help. Do you have to take it lots in advance? What strength - 6c or 30c and how many times a day? Also heard pineapple juice good? Help help - last time I was badly bruised for ages! |

To prevent bruising for any upcoming situation (surgery, risky activity, etc.), the following helps: Stop taking blood thinners at least a week before, including aspirin, ibuprofin, garlic, saint john's wort, Vitamin E, ginsing, Evening Primrose, etc. If you're taking a supplement or medication and are not sure if it thins the blood, look it up online and stop taking if possible if it is.
Also, a week before: Increase your intake of Vitamin C ester (take at least 1,000 mg a day). Take bromelaine supplements or eat FRESH pineapple (buy whole and cut yourself) on an empty stomach twice a day. Three days before and if/as long as there is bruising after, take arnica on light stomach (no dairy and not a lot of food, and not with the bromelaine/pineapple).
Finally, ice the area for at least 10 minutes every hour for the first 24 hours following injury! Icing is critical. No strenuous activity for the first 24 hours following injury. Good luck.

Good advice, I bruise horribly every time. You should see my bruising after an IPL, the machine definitely won.
I do take arnica, when I have it and it does help. On an IPL treatment, they say you are supposed to have bruising, but mine is alot.
After resty, my derm massages the resty to prevent a big lump and push into the spot it needs to go and that is my worst bruising area.
Good luck and let us know how you like it. |

Ice directly after has helped me tremendously. (I used to bruise for a week and this cut down on both the amount of bruising and length. - significantly) |

Hi, I stopped any aspirin and took bromelaine 4-5 days prior to Restylane treatment and used a ice pak immediately afterwards and I had zero bruising. No one could tell that I had anything done! I was so happy because I bruise very easily! |

Ditto on Jeannie's list. Have a friend who is a ps. He gives his patients Arnica Montanta to take 3 times a day for two weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. If it helps with post-surgical bruising, I would think it would also be beneficial for injectibles. |

Hi Pips!
Good question! I just had surgery and Restylane injected and had great success using Arnica 30x three tablets 3 times a day starting the day of surgery and continuing for 2 wks after.
Some good advice for what supplements to take is at:
http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product.do?id=13517
The website has a board specifically for injectables questions and advice that you might find helpful. The supplements can be ordered from that site or you can find them at your local health food store.
Hope this helps and good luck! =)
