Brushes for liquid foundations and cream blushes

Does anyone here use foundation brushes for liquid foundations and/or cream blushes at all? What are your thoughts on them?

I bought my first liquid foundation brush the other day and I couldn't be happier with it! I just bought the el-cheapo Body Shop one. It's pretty good but I have since splurged on five MAC ones (one for liquid foundation, one for cream blush, one for cream eye shadow, and two others just for fun).

In general:

Very nice natural coverage. I'm using this with Tarte Smooth Operator which is pretty much a tinted moisturiser I guess. It's particularly good with cream blushes though - very even application.

No more sticky/colored fingers leaving prints on my bottles.

No more icky stuff in my cream blushes anymore (no matter how clean my hands are, particles of mysterious "stuff" always find their way into my cream blushes).

I have to admit that, until now, I always thought that a foundation brush was such a gimmicky and useless item Rolling Eyes

weeeeeeeell. my BE kabuki brush came today and if I never use it for anything other than stroking my face it will be worth it! It is soooooo lovely! Can't wait to use it tomorrow!

i totally know what you mean!
i'm not much of a liquid foundation kind of girl because i could never get it right, but i went to an introduction evening to dr hauschka cosmetics and the make-up artist was using brushes and OMG, i think i had a epiphany! so now i'm going to buy the brushes she markets (not overly expensive and made in NZ which i always like) and actually try and get a handle on wearing make-up!

the foundation brush she sells for, i think $40, all the rest are really well priced too (think NZ currency) but i'm not sure about shipping overseas, send her an email and ask.
dr h makeup, very impressed actually. it's like all the dr h stuff and is healing and soothing, so you're not undoing all the good stuff you did with the skincare underneath! i've bought the foundation, loose powder and a mascara so far (although can use them as am waiting for my brushes!)
the colours of the eyeshadow are great too and the lipsticks look nice (although i'm more of a gloss than a stick girl).

Btw, I just got my September Allure yesterday and flipping through it found a little article about brushes for cream blushes (not foundations specifically) [p.86]. Their main reasons for recommending one are: (a) more even and less "clowny" application than you get with tapping your fingers, and (b) keeping out bacteria and oils.

I guess (b) depends on how often you clean the brush but I give mine a quick wash every night when I'm washing my face.

I know in store they tend to use them, usually they tell me it's for hygenie reasons, they've never tried to push as sale and basically say it's a matter of choice.

Eve - I think this could be a matter of the type of bristles. I find that I use more with the body shop brush than with the MAC ones. Perhaps some bristles absorb more liquid into them than others? Just a thought.

absolutely, full report is imminent, probably in the product review forum though, definitely lovint it though, smells fantastic and is doing good stuff for my skin while using it - love that!

I bought MAC Studio Tech cream to powder foundation, and you might as well have put me in a casket for viewing it looked so cakey, but it was suggested by a bunch of gals on MUA to try applying it with Mac's foundation brush #190 - so of course, I just bought it off of E-Bay for slightly cheaper than retail. We'll see if it's the ticket!

) and find that it's really good for liquid foundation application. I don't have any cream to powder foundations that I can try it on though.

Funny you should be talking about brushes. I just recently lost my mind and spent a mortgage payment on brushes. But I LOVE them and that is what counts (at least that is what I keep telling my hubby) I started off with a set of 9 Trish McEvoy brushes, then I couldn't stop!! It is amazing how much better you makeup looks with great brushes. I think that I have finally slowed down around 17or 18 brushes. Thank goodness I found them on ebay for just about half the retail price.
