I had surgery recently on my femur and it has left me with three scars . Two are still in their purplish/redish stage most likely b/c they are a lot thicker and the other is flat and white. I know about the old remedies of aloe, vitamin E, and shea butter, but was wondering if there is anything else out there? I know drug stores sell those patches, but I feel i have to buy like three boxes to even begin to see results. I don't have the money for scar removal...so thats out. I guess I'm really looking for a topical ointment that can kill two birds with one stone: make the scars less visable and breaking down the scar tissue underneath thru massaging it in.

In the Uk we have bio-oil which is supposed to help fade scars etc. Its not too expensive, so might be worth doing a search to see if you can get it online? It costs about £9 and is available in some pharmacies and supermarkets. |

hi Amesevey
try prolagene gel - its designed to reduced scarring. It really works, but dont just take my word for it, checkout reviews online and at places like makeupalley.com.
It contains proline which is an amino acid that causes the restructuring and resurfacing of your skin, this is how it reduces scarring. go to your nearest (or get someone to if your still recoverng!) Decleor salon and they should give you some samples.
Good luck!

Farouk,
I searched for the prolagene gel on MUA and didn't come up with anything. Have you used it personally? Pls tell me where this could be purchased, thanks! |

thanks I've also noticed that if you just massage the red scars without products ..just your hands.. the redness has gone down a bit. The only problem is that the scar tends to ache a bit

I am a distributor for Epidermx which with continual use will help scarring. I can not say it will take it totally away.
I have some scarring on neck from picking at acne! (I KNOW, a BAD habit!) I haven't been using Epidermx long enough but some of the skintone looks better. I know other who have used Epidermx for 9mos and it helped their scarring.
after an Epidermx treatment I would recommend Epidermx Camellia oil. |

Rosehip oil is quite effective for surgery scars. Many people use it to prevent or minimize scarring after surgery. |

I know you said you've already tried these, but I have scarring as well, and I've found that pure aloe vera, and pure vitamin E oil really helps, it works better than the cream/gel form. Now, my scars are on my face around my eye and across my lip, so I can't do those patches or other kinds of medications (though scar removal is an option, every doctor I talked said I have to wait), but these products have helped reduce size and redness.
If you've already tried the pure forms of aloe and vit. E and they haven't done much, I'm very sorry. Best of luck! |

Can i buy pure aloe vera/vitamin E and rose hip oil at the drug stores? I will also check out the other sides people have mentioned. Thanks so much.
I'm sorry that you have scars on your face,...that must be a real drag!
