Just got a new issue of Life Extension Foundation magazine and this issue is all on skincare and bioidentical hormones... two subjects that I find it necessary to be interested in at my age.
Here are a few excerpts from the article on green tea extract. When I return from out of town trip, I'll see about posting their recommendations on Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Vitamin A in topical use.
Many independent studies reveal that the topical application of green tea extract provides broad-spectrum protection against skin aging.
Green tea extract possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic properties. Studies of human skin have shown that green tea prevents ultraviolet induced damage that leads to immune suppression and skin cancer induction. Treating skin with green tea extract prevents penetration of UVB radiation. Scientists have published research indicating that green tea prevents the DNA skin damage, inflammation and immune suppression that result from UVB exposure and is a promising candidate for use in topical formulations for skin cancer prevention.
While the anticancer potential of green tea is well established, the effects of green tea on normal skin aging processes are also of significant interest. When topically applied to aged human skin, green tea extract stimulated the proliferation of structure-supporting skin cells which increased the epidermal thickness of the skin. Aging is characterized by thinning skin and destruction of skin cells. This study showed that topical application of green tea extract improved these two molecular parameters of skin aging. (In other words, your skin stayed more supple and didn't thin so much.)
Exposure to everyday sunrays is the major causative factor for face cancers and skin aging. Taking steps to protect your face every day from destructive UVB rays is mainstream medicine's most highly recommended anti-aging technique.
The anti-aging cosmetics that are now available contain extracts from green, white, and red teas, along with potent sun-blocking agents that have high sun-protective-factor (SPF) ratings to protect the lips and facial skin.
So, protecting your skin from free radicals with antioxidants like green tea extract can significantly slow the aging process and keep you looking younger, longer.!

I love green tea extract for my skin. I look for it in facial cleansers that I buy. I also take the supplements for my skin, but as a nice side effect - I've been losing weight with it. I have also seen it as an ingredient in weight loss pills. |

I ordered some weight loss patches with green tea and wore them for a month, but sadly, no results.
I have had great results with another product though. In the first two weeks, I've lost an inch in the waist, 2 inches in the stomach, 1/4 inch in the hips and 1/2 inch in my thigh! Into size 12 and looking fondly at size 10!

Congrat on size 12 Judy. Hubby is going to be chasing you all over the house now! I lost my 20 lbs. on Weight Watcher on line. Love being tiny again! Remember while losing the weight really massage your body with a firming lotion and exercise while losing. I did not use any product or massage on my body and it shows now. Once my foot it 100% I can start my power walking again. |

I use an amino acid supplement and that helps keep the skin firm and I lose slowly which also helps in that area too.
I do exercise and find that at my age (60) that's an essential element of any fat loss program. My hubby and I do a 2 mile brisk walk every morning (when we're in town) and then I do an additional 15 min. at my target heart rate on the treadmill, do about 20 min. of resistance training and finish with a 15 min. session on my Chi Exerciser.
My exercise routine and my eating routine hasn't changed, but previously I was losing about 2 pounds a month and I'd lost about 1/4 inch a month in measurements. It's nice to speed things up, but in a healthy way and keep doing the other good things!
