I'm really fed up with my makeup. It seems to look fine in the morning when I applied it but then later in the day, it seems to melt to my pores and some fine lines that I have. I'm using MMU. It's not like my face is super oily. If I use an oil controlling makeup, I'm afriad it'll be too dry for my face. If I used a foundation for dry skin, it might be too much?
Another problem I noticed is that whenever I put on foundation, it seems to enhance some bumps that I have on my chin as well as my pores. I also noticed that my makeup looked the worst under bright fluorscent lights!
sry for the rant but I feel like I'm about to give up on foundation totally now! |

I feel your pain...and can relate. One thing, though, is flourescent lighting is THE WORST lighting to be seen in, so don't feel bad! It's very unflattering so if you just look OK under it, that's good enough.
As far as makeup goes, I have that dilemma too. I use MMU and find that it seems to accentuate my flaws. It evens out my skin tone (getting rid of all my ruddiness), which I love but it does settle into my fine lines. I don't notice these lines when I'm makeup free but then I hate all my redness (from rosacea) so it seems like I can't win!
I tried using just a concealer on my red areas and a very light dusting of finishing powder everywhere and, although my fine lines weren't as noticeable, the overall finish didn't look as nice as using mineral foundation all over. ARGH! (Sorry, I know I didn't help you with any advice! But I'm sure it's nice to know that you are not alone! ) |

Me TOO ME TOO! In the am my make-up seems good, but by the time the day sets in and my oils kick in, it seems to settle, but my make up looks better to me in the middle of the day, then later in the day it looks worse. Certain lighting does make it look horrible though. I have found that if I just use a concealer on the redness, and a dusting of powder, then it does not look so cakey at the end of the day. Another trick I learned, is I use cover up in the am, and no powder. I do my eye make up and I wait until I get to work to dust my face. That way my pores seem to have closed and natural oils come back a little and then the powder looks so much better. |

CMAYC, I get what u mean about the redness from rosacea, same here! It's a diffuse redness for me so it's hard to spot conceal. I do need an overall evening of my skin tone. Sometimes I wonder if it's just the MMU? Would it be the same if I try other kinds of makeup?
I wonder why fluorescent lights is the worst to be seen under. Sometimes I looked fine under certain fluorescent lights... Some are more yellow or bright white? haha
bergquis, you do make an effort to look nice, don't u? I'm too lazy to actually apply finishing powder when I get to work...not to mention that I'm always late to work, so it'll be hard for me to take out my equipment and powder up
Sometimes I would wonder to myself how can some girls have such flawless makeup. I don't see any powder settling in their pores or fine lines or watever... the entire makeup just looks so perfect that u wonder what they're using! |

when i use "shiseidos luminizing brush powder", my face is all over shiny in the afternoon... when using the "shiseido loose powder", its not...
i read, that powders "can" be drying, what forces the skin to produce oil - which is the shine.
for my experience, this shine-/pore-problem does *not* necessarily depend on the type of make up (regular powder, MMU, liquid) nor the brand, it seems to be the product itself..
so - you have to try to find the "right" one for you... |

I do try to look descent, because I can not stand to look at myself in the mirror otherwise. My Mineral powder really easy (pressed powder) I apply it when I get into my office, since I have natural light and it is quick. I cover up my eyes and spray my mist to set it and it is finished. Really not a lot of effort.
My BF tells me all the time when I complain about my skin or makeup or hair or whatever else I am complaining about, he always says "honey, no one is seeing what you are seeing". "Your skin looks gorgeous.". I asked a girl in my office one day, I said how come when my skin is clear I never get compliment's, but I hear you get them all the time. She said, you ALWAYS have clear skin, everyday. Which is not true, but it did make me feel good. Do people think I have clear skin?? I don't feel I do...but I do need to stay away from the 10X mirror. I hate it |

I think it's how we perceive ourselves. I get people telling me all the time that I have flawless skin. I think they're crazy (or blind!) because all I see are my flaws. So, I think it's safe to assume that the women we perceive as "flawless" probably have the same insecurities we do! |

yeah so I guess we're usually so~ harsh on ourselves. What we noticed, others might not. There's this one time, I didn't "put on my face" as I always say that to my sister ...that means I didnt put on concealer or foundation of any sort. And my sister doesn't really notice any difference. She said I look about the same. I don't know if I should be happy about it or not cuz I was thinking to myself, so I look no better even with makeup on? ...so regardless, makeup or no makeup, I still look the same?? ...hhm
But anyways, I guess nobody's perfect so I'll try not to be so harsh on myself. But it's hard whenever I see girls with flawless makeup. |

you need to play around with different textures of foundation
and up a primer in you makeup routine
alot of the time the face cream you use has a lot to do with the the look of your skin
it sounds as though you have an oiler skin so switching to a foundation for dry skin isnt going to work is your current foundation oil free? is it a little or stick? |

I second the primer recommendation. Primers' purpose is to keep your make-up smooth. You should give some of the oil free foundations a try. I have REALLY dry skin and almost no face creams provide enough moisture. Anyways, even with my dry skin I use an oil-free foundation from Laura Mercier. Not dry at all. Give it a shot. I best that will help substantially. |

I definitely think that foundation formulation is the key to finding the best look for you.
I have oily skin, enlarged pores and a fiesta of broken caps. On the days when I wear a cream-to-powder foundation (Revlon New Complexion) or Shiseido stick, followed with a dusting a MMU, I feel my skin looks best and smoothest under all lights. Other days, if I use a light application of Revlon Colorstay foundation, then MMU, people tell me I have gorgeous skin. (If only they knew!) If I use Estee Lauder Doublewear liquid, it covers beautifully but, to my eye, looks grainy under any light and makes every darned pore stand out and scream "Look at me!"
It's a hard balance to strike and I still haven't found the perfect foundation yet. |

well my foundation is a MMU so there's no oil in it. Also, I did use a pearl powder primer under it and over it to help control oil but still, it doesn't last. I also tried the Sofina ss that everyone's talking about as a great primer but still, there's an oil breakthrough like 4hrs later.
I'm using a moisturizer with SPF and that's a must as I need the protection. I was thinking of wearing MMU to boost the extra protection too. To be honest, I haven't really tried the other regular foundations out there besides the so~ many different brands of MMU as it claims to be so natural and good for the skin. But ironically, I feel that MMU kinda give me the bumps.
sigh...I'm so stressful!! I just want a foundation now that can cover my pores and long lasting. I don't care if it's MMU or not anymore! |

I know how you feel too Stardustdy. I have a very oily t-zone and foundation always seems to melt on me after about 5 hours or so. A good primer will help to delay the meltdown and don't worry too much about florescent lighting, it's officially the devil incarnate. You're right there are different tones of florescent lighting and of course it tends to bounce off the surrounding colour of the other walls too. It has predominantly green tones to it's spectrum so all in all it's a really depressing type of lighting to be under! Don't spend too long in your bathroom! Natural light is the truest indicator of how good your skin looks or go between the florescent and the natural sunlight and if you look good in both, you'll have found the perfect medium. |

Gosh...I am with all of you!!
I have tried everything (or at least feel like I have?) I just turned 50 and still battling the oil? Also, still searching for that perfect matte finish!
There are so many factors that influence the appearance of foundation....skincare, weather, humidity???????
I just started using Obagi and now my foundation is not working? Previously, I was using Glytone skincare and GloMInerals foundation. Seems like the Obagi has made my skin oilier instead of drying it out??? Now I cant figure out what is making me so oily....Is the Obagi.....the MMU......the humidity???? Recently bought the Clarisonic brush.....that's not helping the oil either?
Not sure if I will ever figure it out?? |

To make things more difficult, I also need a good non greasy sunscreen first and then put on foundation. So it's gonna make it stressful to look for the right sunscreen that doesn't break me out to pair with a good foundation.
It's really stressful you know! |
