How strict is the 3-1-1 rule for carry-ons liquids that's applicable from the US?
One-quart bag per person; 3 oz. container size.

I will be traveling from the UK and France back to the US and won't be able to check luggage. I was hoping to stock up on goodies....

Although they do not seem to pay much attention to what you put into your quart=size ziplock baggie, I wouldn't risk it. They can and do confiscate things and even examine what you have in your checked baggage spilling things and confiscating at will.I always worry about my Remergent DNA Repair (it might strike some male,or female for that matter, as something very suspicious and be gone from your luggage with a "friendly" printed note that your luggage was searched. This happened to a friend of mine at Heathrow and she never saw her lotion again.

Totally agree if you find good value and buy it post it to yourself as they are pretty stiff at customs now especially using European airports

I know for sure that Canadian airports are extremely strict about the liquids as are Australian ones - when we were in Vancouver over Christmas even on domestic flights, people were having their deodorants, perfumes etc... confiscated. I agree, don't risk it - pay that little bit more to have it posted home.

If you have large bottles of liquids (or anything over the size limit) they will probably find it and make you throw it away. I have seen them do this to other people. I once had everything in my baggie, except for a small bottle of nail polish, which they found and made me take out. Luckily, I still had room in my baggie and could keep it with me.

Ok, I'm back - you guys were right, don't risk it! There doesn't appear to be much rhyme or reason and items that were fine in the US weren't in other places (e.g. a cuticle clipper). Leaving the US, I had to trash my sunscreen because the container was more than 3 oz - even though it fit my baggie... Neutral

I'm a big fan of carry-on only, and as a card-carrying EDS member, an even bigger fan of having good skincare products. So, when I travel abroad and want to stock up on things unavailable in the US, I pack a small sturdy mailing box in my bag (pre-labelled to myself and stuffed with undies on the way out.) Once in the other country, I fill it full of the liquid goodies I've bought wrapped nicely in newspaper, take it to a post office, and send it back to the US. What a lovely "present" I get several weeks later!
