I am lucky not to have noticeable eye bags -- usually. But about a month ago, I went through a time of overwork and stress and lack-of-sleep. I got some noticeable bags and shadows under my eyes. I started putting on heavier creams both day and night. Times got better, but my bags did not go away. I kept at the "treatment," till it hit me that the treatment was now causing the bags. The extra moisture from the creams was what was under my skin. For the past two nights, I haven't added an eye cream, and this morning I woke up to my usual face. No bags.
It makes sense -- the extra fluid has to go somewhere. Of course, I still have the fine lines -- how to treat those, without making a mountain out of a molehill? So to speak.
For those who are relatively young and have no serious under-eye issues yet -- I'd caution against overtreating your eye skin. It may be the very culprit you're trying to thwart. |

Good tip, Sidda.
I read somewhere - probably here - that putting creams too close to your eyes can plug the tearduct or something like that?
No matter what the mechanism, though, I've noticed that putting creams too close does make my eyes puffy. |

UGH! The dreaded eye bags have been my nemesis for decades.
Sidda's suggesstion is a good one. In my experience I also have found that if I apply my nightly creams several hours before bedtime, and then just splash a little cold water on my face before I hit the sack, that also helps the bags to not be as puffy in the a.m. |

It's certainly a dilemma how to moisturize the fine under eye lines without weighing the delicate skin down. I have noticed that some people apply emu oil and other oils around their eyes. I have to use light creams and serums to avoid eye bags.
Even for eye make up removal I have to use a non-oily formula. Otherwise I wake up with puffy eyes in the morning. |
