Once pores develop you cannot shrink them again, and toners are the worse because they use strong astringents to temporarily tighten the skin but that also makes your skin dry.

The key to making your pores look small is to remove the excess sebum and dirt buildup trapped in the pores. I use cream cleansers, enzyme peels, gentle clay masks and control creams to constantly exfoliate my skin and to draw out dirt and oil.

To prevent pores from enlarging, you need to use products that help with hydrating the skin, enlarged pores is a sign that your skin may be too dry.

I swear by my Proactiv toner...it moisturizes and contains a small amount of glycolic acid to help keep your pores clean.

I get mine on ebay so that I don't have to buy the rest of the Proactiv stuff that I no longer use.

Two excellent toners to consider: Kate Somerville Clarifying Treatment Toner and PSF Clarifying Facial Toner. Non-drying, balancing, and refreshing!

I am not a big TONER user, but I have found that using Witch Hazel (Dicksons) after doing a mud mask really help to clean thing ups and close the pores that I just got all the junk out of. It does not dry the skin either. Very Happy

I use Dr Hauschka toner, and I too suffer with large pores, and its not harsh. Their cleansing cream along with it is good at reducing them.... if used properly.

I'm a huge toner fan. A lot of moisturizers are too heavy for my oily skin so toners provide just the right amount of moisturizing for me. None of my favourites make pores look smaller though. I like the Pevonia sensitive skin toning lotion. It's very soothing. I also like the Garnier Invigorating Toner. It's quite inexpensive. I bought it because of all the positive reviews on Makeupalley and haven't been disappointed. The fragrance is quite light which I like. I also am a huge fan of Paula's Choice 2% liquid. It exfoliates w/ BHA.

This is true that no toner can shrink your pores or anything else for that matter. Perhaps with diligent use of a good AHA or glycolic acid serum, eventually skin will APPEAR to look smoother and I say appear because once you stop using these products your skin will revert back to what it was. I get the best results with Paula's Choice AHA.

I think toner might be the woes cosmetic to shop for because many of them contain alcohol and some people ( weel Paula Begoun ) says that witch hazel and essential oils are bad too...so I'm like you. totally confused about what to use on my skin too. I was thinking of the AVC toner but did not heard about that for a while ( I post about it maybe you can have a look at this too.)So I will follow up on your post to see everybody's recommendations.

I have sensitive skin and can use both AHA and BHA. I know many people with sensitive skin can't though. My impression is that it is an individual thing - mostly trial and error. I usually have bad reactions to products with high alcohol content and strong fragrances (my skin becomes inflamed or will break out). I know there are products with low AHA percentages so that might be a good place to start to see how you tolerate AHA. I know Reversa sells a product with a low AHA percentage (4%) and most of their products are fragrance free. I have used the Reversa lotion w/ 8% and was pleased with the results. I have also used the Proactiv toner which contains AHA but it also contains witch hazel (which has an alcohol content). Initially I was reluctant to try this product but it's ok. I know a lot of people find it too strong though.

I'm in my early 40's. I have found that the simpler, the better, with toner for me. I use Dickinson's Witch Hazel and my skin has never looked better.

toner should be apply with a cotton pad,in order to final clean the skin before applying the moisturizer.. rt?
so what about toner spray? u cant really use cotton pad with the toner spray..so is that means the skin will not be cleaned properly since the toner spray doesnt really help clean the skin?
becoz im using a spray mist at the moment. but i jst feel maybe its not good enough...
any suggestions pls!!thank you all! wave

I got hooked on the NaturDerm Triple Lavender Face Foam from manslayerliz. She is right, great stuff. Tones and cleanses, and smells delicious, organic and no SLS junk. Love love, love this line, smart and fast, oh and it works! Miranets, I asked my derm guy and he said yes you can shrink pores, that the size doesn't actually change as it will continue to expand and shrink from different products and temp changes. I have seen this myself. My pores seem to get larger in the hot weather. Sure appreciate all your knowledge!

I think it is hard for a toner to change the size of pores, maybe you need some nice serum or facial mask.

Two things:

1. Not all toners are drying?

2. Isn't pore size mostly genetic?

I highly recommend Obagi toner, very gentle on the skin. But would also recommend their Obagi gentle cleanser also(both products available on EDS)...

Usage would be:
Obagi gentle cleanser first to clean the face or skin,
next use Obagi toner to PH balance your skin.

then, afterwards, just use a mild "oil-free" moisturizer....

DO NOT USE SOAP ON YOUR FACE.

I hope this helps.

Good luck! Smile
