I need to buy a really nice wedding gift (around £50-60/ 100-120 us$) The couple are around 27. I want to buy something that they will still have in 20 years time but that they will also like now. Hmmm, tricky! Just wondered if any of you guys have bought/ been given really good gifts - maybe something unusual or very timeless and classic. Hope you can help! |

Are they registered anywhere? Usually brides and grooms will register for items they really want but can't bring themselves to splurge on like china or nice vases. I'm getting married soon and if my friends bought me a place setting in the china I picked out on my registry, it would mean a lot to me because it's something I really want.
If they are not registered, visit their house before buying anything decor related. My fiance's best friend recently received huge table lamps with brass pineapples for the bases. They have very simple decor taste and I think the gift giver had good intentions but didn't know what the bride and groom liked.
If they aren't registered and you don't know their style, just ask the bride. Tell her you want to get her something special and just ask a few simple questions like: Do you like antiques or is your decor more modern? What colors do you plan on using in your home? She'll be thrilled you want to buy them something and chances are she might have something in mind she really wants.
I find that for really unique gifts, colorful hand-blown glass vases are really nice to give as well as nice picture frames or leather bound photo albums (they can use these to remember their special day).
Good luck! HTH! |

Yes they have registered but I just wasn't taken with the stuff. Was things like mugs or bedspreads but very of the time - so will all be ditched within a few years. I just wanted something a bit more lasting/ special/ less mundane. |

Most people register for stuff they need.
For something special, I'd go with a:
- nice vase (I personally like Murano Glass, you can tie in the color palate they chose with their bed linens)
- photoalbum (leather bound is nice and they can use it for their wedding photos, you can also get these embossed with their monogram)
- an engraved silver frame for a wedding photo (mr. and mrs.)
- a fancy set of wine glasses (if they drink wine- Riedel, Spieglau and Schott Zweisel are all good- not sure on spelling?)
- candlestick holders
www.redenvelope.com has fun, personalized items if you're thinking about shopping online. I have bought nice gifts from them and have always been happy with their products!
Thats all I can think of for now. Hope I've been able to help you! Good luck! |

Well, I know it may sound kind of stupid, but foodsavers are awesome! And if they like to cook, it would be a wonderful gadget! They make them in stainless steel now, so it is a lot more modern.
It may fall under a housewarming gift, but it's still really useful for those who enjoy cooking and saving ingredients for later. |

I once saw a blown up photo in a nice frame with white border that people signed as they entered. It was beautiful. |
