Hi,
I'm looking for opinions about Mircodermabrasion (MDA - by the way I'm making up my own abbreviation here).
I had it done for the first time the other week and it left me feeling like I had a sunburnt face for about 3 - 4days after. I'm wondering:
--what are the long term effects of regular MDA treatments?
--Is it possible that MDA can lead to certain types of skin conditions...dryness, rosacea?
I don't really know too much about it, but would love to hear from anyone who has had good bad or indifferent experiences. Could you please let me know
1. How often you had the treatment.
2. How long you continued with the treatment for.
3. Your inital feelings about it and what you think now.
Thanks Heaps. |

I used to have it done every six weeks and my skin looked wonderful. All the effects I had were always positive.

I do have microderm crystals that I mix in with my cream cleanser.. from the feel of them I could never withstand a full strength treatment! It leaves the skin very thin and compromised, and if you have existing inflammation type skin conditions then i don't think it is good to further irritate the skin barrier. Skin does sometimes need a boost to turn over, but you need to take care with pre-treatment and post-treatment to ensure optimal healing.
I have heard some people who have developed chronic skin issues like mild acne or fungal infections after certain invasion treatments like microdermabrasion and IPL. |

Yikes - from what I experienced I could see it as a possibility, didn't think it would be quite that severe though. |

I had microdermabrasion treatments several years ago when it first became popular. I had several (maybe 3-4?) sessions once a month. During that time, my skin was smoother but quickly reverted back to it's initial texture once I stopped the treatments. One thing I did notice for me was an increase in hyperpigmentation which I'm prone to because of careless sun exposure when I was younger. I'm no skin expert, but I don't think the microdermabrasion caused this. I think it's more likely that the discoloration was present and the exfoliation just brought it to the surface quicker. |

I've done alot of research (on line and talking to people who had it done) on this because I was considering it. I think this is more of a quick-ish fix then lasting results. I also ultimately decided against it because I've read several times it can cause broken caps. |
