Step One--collect up your Julie Hewett palettes, or other palettes using identical pan sizes (1 and 7/16 inches across) like Tricia Sawyer's Essentials.
Step Two--Order a new, empty palette fromwww.naimies.com or another online retailer that sells the Japonesque line of makeup tools. The Japonesque PS-020 appears to be the exact palette used by Julie Hewett ad Tricia Sawyer, though you can order other configurations that include spaces for smaller sized pans. When it arrives, go to Step Three:
Step Three--Carefully pry your chosen shadows, blushes, liplushes, or Cheekies out of the original palette. I use a very thin bladed knife. A large needle will also work. They aren't actually glued in.
Step Four--Make your own chosen palette! Change your mind tomorrow and put four different things into it!
So, now you can have the palette of your dreams, or replace the used up pans in your existing palettes with other goodies, or even mix and match products from two different lines (as long as they use the pan size in question.)
Step Five (optional): Report back to us about what other makeup lines use this sized pan. (Stila, unfortunately, uses a slightly smaller pan that doesn't fit snugly in this palette.) |

Cute advice! I love swapping things up and making custom palettes.
I found that Besame's Cashmere Powder compact is just a shade too big for my Stila eye shadows -- but maybe this size would work for the brands you've mentioned?
I'm also going to see if the smaller Besame compacts (for blush and eye shadow) might fit smaller circular pans like MAC or some of Stila's special limited palettes.
I love mixing this stuff up! I was into this back when Aveda first came out with their magnetic palettes, but more and more companies are doing this now.  By the way, the Besame compacts are all magnetic, and some have a little notch to help make it easier to pry out the old stuff. Good design! |

The Japonesque palette has little holes behind each pan bay to help getting them out--you just poke something like a piece of paper clip through the hole, and voila, out pops the pan. Some of the JH palettes also have the holes, others have them covered by the paper cover added with the JH logo.
Japonesque also do a similar palette with some of the larger sized pan bays and some smaller ones--I think they are the ones Tricia Sawyer uses for the "name" palettes as opposed to the "Essential" palettes. The small holes look to me the same as would fit Mac eyeshadows. |

I wish you could get replacement pans from Julie Hewett. I am almost out of the Natural cheekie color and I really would prefer it to put into a palette Vs buying the pot. and I don't need a new palette of other stuff.
Has anyone used the newsprint blue color as eyeliner? I'm pondering this with the 25% off. |
