I have the last month been testing BE foundation etc. I really do like the idea of a powder foundation like this, but BE dries my skin out! It doesn't show on my face, but i can feel the tight paper feeling from dry skin...not pleasant at all!

Could it be that I haven't found a moisturizer that is good enough and the problem might disappear if a use a richer cream? Ii have dehydrated combo skin and I still haven't found a moisturizer I'm really happy with. And are other mineral makeup brands likely to give the same problem?

Please, give me your suggestions! Smile

I have a suspicion it's your moisturizer, not the BE foundation. I have very dry skin myself, and one of the things I like about BE, is how the foundation does not dry my skin out, unlike most powders.

So maybe you need to switch to a richer cream? Which one are you using at the moment?

You are probably right about the moisturizer. Lately I've tried samples of neroli oil with different decleor moisturisers (vitaroma, hydra floral and harmonie). The oil is wonderful, but the moisturizers are not that great. Do you have any suggestions?

Have you tried the Nutri-delice cream in a tube? It's for dry skin, but doesn't leave a greasy film or anything. The Harmonie cream is also great.

Aurora,

Are you using the Mineral Veil in the BE line? That can cause your skin to go dry.

Also, some people, not all have a bad reaction to the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride, which is an ingredient in some mineral makeup. It's what gives the makeup that glowy look. Skin drying out, rashes/breakouts, and itching are common complaints of products containing bismuth.

I was one of them who had the same reaction as you did - first with BE, then with Jane Iredale - both excellent lines - but not everyone can use them.

There are other excellent lines of minerals out there and you can experiment till the cows come home with samples. GREAT lines to try that feel like heaven on your skin and don't contain bismuth are Botany 101 and Aromaleigh's new Glissade mineral makeup. The only problem with Botany is that it's such a great line, that you wait 6-8 weeks for samples, but once you try it you'll be hooked! Botany's makeup contains vitamin E which makes it go on like silk and your skin looks perfect! Aromaleigh's Glissade was specifically formulated for dry/sensitive skin types and I think it's going to be a big hit as there's not another line out there that has this formulation.

Or, it could just be your moisturizer! lol

Hm...I guess I have to try the foundation without the mineral veil to see if that is causing the problem. Wore an ordinary forundation today and didn.t feel nearly as dry as with the BE. I still want to try a different moisuriser before I give up on BE.

As a former make-up artist, I agree that the Bare Escentuals products ought-not make your skin dry nor dehydrated. However, your skin may appear more-dry upon looking at it with the make-up on; this is due to it's powdery consistancy. Anything loose or powdery will often enhance the appearance of dry, flakey, or dehydrated skin. Appropriate skincare or a more hydrating/nourishing liquid foundation will help.

Based on what you have described about your skin, I will advise that you use some gentle products, with addequate hydration, and non-comedogenic nourishing.

Cleanse
Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel followed by Daily Microfoliant, Phytomer Gentle Cleansing Milk, or Sothys Normalizing Beauty Milk.

Tone
Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner, Phytomer Eau Marine Lotion, or Sothys Normalizing Lotion.

Exfoliant
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, Phytomer Peeling Vegetable Enzyme Mask, or Sothys Gommage. If you don't exfoliate, your skin will have built-up dead, keratinized skin cells, which create a barrier, and do not allow your other products to penetrate.

Moisturizer
Dermalogica Active Moist (n-oily) or Skin Smoothing Cream (n-dry) mixed with Skin Hydration Booster, Phytomer HydraContinue Intensive Moisturizing Cream (normal/combination skin), Sothys Hydraoptimale Gel, or Decleor Aromaessence Neroli Oil followed by Hydrafloral Creme.

Mask
Dermalogica Multi-Vitamin Power Recovery Masque, Sothys Hydraprotective Mask, or Phytomer Intensive Hydration Mask.

You may also want to invest in Jane Iredale's DH20 Spray. This is formulated for use with all mineral-based make-up, and gives the skin a refreshing boost whenever needed.

No, don't give up on BE until you do your proceess of elimination. Maybe eliminating the Mineral Veil will help.

I tried to stick it out with the Jane Iredale which is another wonderful line, but my skin did not like the bismuth, and I started to notice crepiness in the eye area, and dry skin - until finally a facialist told me that I was reacting to the bismuth. I stopped using it and my skin went back to normal.

I knew it wasn't my skincare - have always tried to use top drawer lines and never had a problem - I really thought it was the big 4-0 and my skin was just changing.

Being a makeup artist for many years, and experiencing so many of the high-end lines out there, I loved the idea of using minerals. Still do!!! I hope with maybe some tweaking with skincare (what Casper's mom recommended sounds divine!) that it works for you!

Thank you all for your great suggestions!

I will look into the different moisurizers suggested by CM, but first I will see how my new dr. Hauschka quince cream works for me. Don't think I need to change my other skincare regime since I quite happy with my cleanser and exfoliator.

Actually I never considered that the mineral veil might be the sinner. Will try without it today an see what happens... By the way, if the mineral veil is the sinner, anybody got a suggestion for a different loos powder? Need something to reduce shine during the day.
