Is there an awful lot of spam on the forum these days? I appreciate that some new forum members have just bought something so great they want to share it with the world, but personally, I like a bit of an introduction to someone before they go on in every post about the same product. Maybe there should be a sticky thread of helpful tips for new forum members. I have to say on a more personal note, I was going to get some epidermx as part of my big shop and held off as I felt I had been spammed by a member. I'm not going to buy now unless I get to try it first. Neutral

I haven't been using the board for long so can't comment whether this spamming behaviour is something that happens a lot round here.

There are a couple of product ranges that seem to have their distributors posting on here. That's fine and dandy as long as they aren't just here to post about the products they are trying to plug. They need to make the effort to join in on all discussions and express their opinions on a wide range of products and not just the ones they are trying to make money from. Rolling Eyes

I agree, it can be handy getting to talk to distributers but like you say, they need to post on other things too to have credibility. Maybe Ian S could give dalguy some shaving tips Laughing

...I wondered about that. I'm pretty new to this forum and have noticed that members really don't like promotion and I think they've made it pretty clear to whomever is pushing their product. Either the "helpful tips" as guapagirl suggested, or I'm sure a barrage of pm's to the offender would send the message loud and clear. Smile

I don't think we mind people trying to sell us things if they are honest. But when they are just on here plugging a product it's annoying. I don't want to offend anyone and I have brought a product from another user but that user did not push the product and has been on lots of topic discussions and is interested in different beauty products not just there own and also was upfront and honest and the product speaks for itself. What I find irritating are these people pushing but they never go to any other topic that is not related to theirs and have a good old chat.
Phew that was a long one.

Agreed. A lot of the spam is deleted before most see it on here but there is a lot that is really borderline and it's hard to make a call on it. I think a sticky post with some guidelines is a good idea Idea

I'd also like to see all distributors here (regardless of if they are new or established) clearly state that fact each time they mention a product that they benefit from.

sticky on the skincare forum would be good. Perhaps distributers could have it stated as part of their signature that they sell or in an email address like sassyred does? (not meaning to single you out sassy, but you kinda represent what could be seen as good practice! Smile ).

That would really irritate me. Mad As it is, our mailboxes can only hold a limited amount and if it filled with spam and legitimate pms couldn't get in, I would never consider buying from the spammer! Shame on you

Funny, I to received some unasked for PM from a distributor in my mailbox yesterday. I did not respond to it. But, if it happens again I will forward it to Mabsy.

Guess I'd like to get everyone's take or advice on a situation that I've experienced.

As most of you know, I have a company that markets a product that's been discussed here.

Upon occasion, someone will ask me a question on the forum in general. I handle it in different ways, depending on the question and on how many questions I've answered lately.

If I feel that I've maybe been as "visible" as I need to be for a while, I answer the question with a PM. My theory is that I don't want to be constantly posting something about a product that I market and offending people, even when it was in response to a direct question.

Does it seem OK to you guys if someone asks a question on the board and I respond to them sometimes in a PM? I guess I'm asking if that's considered spam.

Hi Judy,

The only time you have every PMed me is when I have asked you a question. You did not pursue me....there is a big difference. Now, we PM and email at times on general topics. Smile

I think you handle yourself very nicely on this forum. You have not only posted about ES but have enlightened me on so many other healthcare/skincare issues in general.

Thanks!

It was so much fun finally talking with you by phone for the first time this morning!

I think it's really great the way people on this forum share their knowledge and their opinions and we have such fun! Very Happy

As you and I discussed this morning, this is, hands down, the best skincare discussion forum on the internet, no contest! And, it's a good thing there aren't more just like it or my husband would be thinking I had an "online boyfriend" I'd be spending so much time on the computer. Laughing

I agree with Winnie. There's no need for you to worry, Judy. You are certainly nothing like the other distributors that can appear on this board plugging their products. You are very discreet. Very Happy

You have my utmost support Judy. You are not a pusher. You involve yourself in lots of discussions, most of the others pushing products do not really participate in any other discussions. It is obvious you are interested in all skin care as most of us on this site are. Keep up the good work. Very Happy

For what its worth, Judy, it took quite a while being on the forum for me to even realize that you are a distributor. I, first and foremost, just saw you as a very knowlegeable contributor to the discussions. You are a model for other distributors, especially new ones that join the forum. Also Sassyred identifies herself as a distributor in a very non-pushy way. I think you two are just fine. Very Happy

yep I agree with the above! I think that judy and sassyred are good examples of how it should be done. I think there is a danger of throwing the baby out with the bathwater if there were a move to prohibit distributers. Both sassy and judy have made really good contributions...I mean I know I'd never have the patience to find all the info Judy does! If we know someone is a distributer, we can pm them or ask for them to pm us and it isn't spamming. I do have an issue with being spammed in my inbox tho...It's only happened once and Mabsy dealt with it. I think the spammer was banned? can't remember, but anyway, the less spamming the better...maybe there should be a terms and conditions? or a sticky in skincare? That way new members know what is and isn't acceptable.

Awwwww shucks Embarassed

For myself, I can say that I enjoy this discussion forum more than any I've ever participated in.... on any subject.

I've been slightly obsesses with skincare, makeup, hair... just about anything having to do with one's appearance... since I was a kid. My favorite children's game was dressing up. When I was about 10, my great aunt was a caretaker for a lady who had Alzheimers. She lived with the lady and the lady was quite rich. I really have some funny stories about when she was in the early stages of Alzheimers, but still driving and we'd go to town grocery shopping in her black Cadillac. We finally had to stop that because she kept losing the car. Shock

Anyway, she had two of her evening gowns that she let me dress up in. I would go into the dining room with all the crystal wine glasses and pretend party to my hearts content. Still can't pass a mirror without taking a peek! Very Happy

So, discussing all this neat stuff with you guys is kinda like playing dress-up! Wink

The sticky with guidelines is coming - work has been crazy and I haven't event had time to have a decent read of the EDS forums Crying or Very sad As a matter of courtesy, I would like to run the said "guidelines" by Magda before I post them up so there will be a delay after I write them (which will probably be on the weekend).

Unsolicited PMs should not be happening. If you do get them then please let me know who they are from and what they are regarding and I will try to deal with it. I've had to deal with a few of these in the past week already Sad
