Hi All,
I'm loving the newly reformulated Skinceuticals sport defense spf 45 broad spectrum sunscreen. It isn't chalky, and goes on without a whitish cast. It is nicely moisturizing, and doesn't break me out.

BUT I am worried about nanoparticles. I think that SC uses micronized zinc (Z-cote), but does anyone know if Zcote is really bad for the skin?
Just curious, since I really love this sunscreen, and want to use it knowing it is safe!
Any opinions about this sunscreen would be greatly appreciated. I also use and love NIA sunscreen, but it is not broad spectrum and leaves a whitish sheen on my face.

That sunscreen has 4.5% zinc oxide and 7.5% octinoxate. Personally, I would be much more concerned about the octinoxate. I believe that zinc oxide is totally safe. z cote's fine. The sunscreen I use (Devita) uses z cote also. |

SKINCEUTICALS PHYSICAL UV DEFENSE, SPF 30 has pretty low health hazard rating on CosmeticsDatabase -- http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/product.php?prod_id=38418, so I guess z-cote is ok. But this SPF 45 one has octinoxate, which tends to increase the hazard rating. Of course this rating also depends on the ingredient concentration. |

Micronized Zinc Z-cote is coated zinc, it is safe and not bad for your skin.
But I would also stay away from octinoxate - here is from Wikipedia:
"Estrogenic effects were noted in laboratory animals at concentrations close to those experienced by sunscreen users." |
