I am interested in making a toner, a lotion and a serum to play around with to help with acne and very minor sagging in my midcheek and eye area.

I have bought Niacinamide (excellent for acne and may increasing collegen production) from lotion crafter, salicylic acid (excellent for acne) from making cosmetics, DMAE (may help firm sagging skin) and copper peptides (repairs and may increases collegen production) from skinactives, SKB (great nutrition for skin, may also help firm sagging skin. I will use SKB a base for serum) and vaculift from ncnproskincare, Thayers Alcohol-Free Original Witch Hazel Toner (base for salicylic toner) and emu oil from my local health food store and Cetaphil (base for lotion) from a local pharmacy.

After I test them for a while I will eventually narrow down and only use one of the toners listed below and only one lotion or one serum depending on which I like better a lotion or a serum. I have contacted all the above suppliers and also asked for their advice but since YOU ALL got me started with all your darm informative posts I also want your advice too. Laughing Laughing

I have acne and use Retin A wich I like and will continue to use. I am 37 and am starting to notice a very minor sagging in my midcheek and eye area. That is why I am playing around with DMAE and SKB. Salalicylic acid has always been a miracle worker for me and my acne.

I also will combine all my topical regimens with Vaculift, eventually I will invest in leds or a dermaroller or dermawand or a micro current thiny... I cant decide still thinking about it……I think one thing at a time is best.

Last week I began taking the following orally (750 mg of Pantothenic acid with 250 mg of L Carnitine) to help stop acne from the inside because I can't afford accutane and I really would rather use a natural method:

Reducing or Eliminating Acne with Pantethine and L Carnitine

Using the modified Leung B5 protocol with Pantethine 750 mg (b5 a better form of Pantothenic acid) with 250 mg of L Carnitine three times a day (instead of Leungs 10g Pantothenic acid per day = 20 capsules a day) we have noted excellent success rates in reducing or eliminating acne. An added advantage is a good cosmetic result with smaller pore size and smoother skin. The vitamins are safe with no adverse side effects noted.

Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is commonly supplemented in large doses to reduce oil production and help rid your skin of acne. It works like Accutane, in the sense that it reduces oil production. Pantothenic acid, however, works by helping your body to metabolize the fats in your body that later turn into sebum. Accutane actually shrinks the oil glands to block the oil from coming through to your face. Since pantothenic acid addresses the underlying problem, it is, in fact, the more efficient solution.

My question is to anyone out there to provide as much info as possible to my questions below that you have the patients to answer.

Thank you all very much for your help:

1. Base for Salalicylic toner: Thayers Alcohol-Free toner Original Witch Hazel
Ingredients: Purified Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Certified Organic Filet Of Aloe Vera), Glycerin (Vegetable), Fragrance (Natural Witch Hazel), Hamamelis Virginiana (THAYERS® proprietary un-distilled Witch Hazel) Extract, Citric Acid, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) Acetate.

Toner (12oz Thayers Alcohol-Free Original Witch Hazel Toner with the following actives/ingredients mixed in)DMAE 4%
Salalicylic Acid 3% (alcohol soluble/slightly water soluble)

•Are above actives/ingredients compatible with each other and with the ingredients in the Thayers product?
•Is it possible to make an 8oz serum with above listed actives %?
•Does this require an additional preservative Or does the Thayers have enough in it already?
•If an additional preservative is required will any of the following single or combinations of preservatives suffice? EDTA, Potassium sorbate, BHT, Citric Acid
•What is the shelf life if I add an additional preservative?
•What is the shelf life if I don’t add an additional preservative?
•I would like to put the above actives straight into the 12oz Thayers container and shake to mix. Will this be sufficient or will it require heating, beakers and such.

Emu oil

•Are above actives/ingredients compatible with each other and with the ingredients in the Cetaphil product?
•Is it possible to make an 8oz serum with above listed actives %?
•Because of the Emu oil will I need to use an emulsifier? If can what is the best lecithin or GelMaker EMU OR Polysorbate 60?

hmm hmmmm I had hoped there would be some interest.

I guess I will have this thread/conversation with myself.

I will report back with results from the different mixes I combine but only if it's worthy of reporting.

I will also report back as I learn the ups and downs of DIY lotions, toners and serums with information that is again only worthy of reporting.

My goal is to eventually find combinations that work for acne and start my own biz. My focus with products will be for people with bad acne and the beginning stages of sagginess. I want to start with what I have experience with (I've suffered the last 10 years with horrible acne dermatologist have not been much help but they sure have taken lots of my money) and because I have a real passion to figure out how to beat acne for my self as well as others. I will experiment first on my relatives & friends Bad Grin

I am a life coach and massage therapist so I will experiment a bit on a few select clients too and eventually make brochures and a website for them to shop from and have a place for them to learn how to combat their acne helping them to get rid of the isolation and depression that arises when one has acne that doctors can not help them with or when they can not afford the cost of expensive dermatologists.

Cheers,
Betsy

i am using perfect complexion royal jelly+HA and compressing like she reccomends and it has cleared my acne. i have used tons of products before and they are too radical or drying or just don't work. this is amazing stuff. if i use highest dose retin a with obagi line my skin was free of acne but after my face literally fell off my skin was still red and dry this does not upset my sensitive skin and i am moist without repeat acne. the best stuff ever

Hi Jenny,

Thank you for telling me about these products. What are the instructions that come with it?

Do you also use any of her peels? If so which ones?

What other products of hers do you use?

Cheers,
Betsy

If you ever try to combine water and oil, yes you will need an emulsifier. But! I see that sometimes you're using a lotion as a base, the lotion already has emulsifiers in it so you may be ok.
