Using liquid eyeliners - Help!

I like the look it gives better than what you get from the crayon eyeliners.........my one problem is putting it on right.

No matter how hard i try i always mess it up......i tried using a qtip to stretch the skin rather than using my fingers which i found out from a clip on youtube that its better and you cause less wrinkles this way in the long term.

anyway even using qtip doesnt help my line is not always straight the first time and i have to try multiple times....at times even using the qtip and wet tissue to rub out the crooked line and make it more straight.

i tried putting my hand on like a drawer or something so my hand is less shaky when my applying it. Even open my mouth in a 0 form to relax the facial muscles (another tip i learned from youtube).
Often the problem is my eyelid.......its always blinking and i find it hard to stop this by doing my eyeliner application Mad

Do i need to completly close the eye or leave it slightly open?

sometimes one eye will be done perfect and il have a hard time doing it properly on the other one.

Do you like swap hands when doing the application? Like using the right hand to do the left eye and vice versa? Cause i have a tendency to do this. Maybe thats the problem?

Will it get better with practice....cause like im quite new to using this. Also i have seen better brushes to do this. I bought an Almay one recently while the brush has a pointy tip on the hand i see it is half the size of some of the longer more thinner brushes that come with the eyeliner. Maybe the brush is the problem? Or does it not matter? Should i buy another eyeliner one that has a more longer thinner pointed brush and throw away or not use the brush that came with this one. It was pretty expensive to buy this. Unfortunatly sometimes the stores do not have testers and you cannnot see the actual things until you buy and open the product.

any tips?

i really like the way my eyes look with one application of the eyeliner on top of the lid then the mascara.....makes em look quite mysterious and exotic Very Happy

so i wanna get this right one way or other.

An extremely easy and effective way to line the eyes is to use the "tightline" method. This is lining the inner upper eye (on the lash line) instead of along the upper lashes.

Also, try using a gel liner such as Bobbi Brown's - they're much easier to apply. I use a pointed sponge applicator and simple dot the gel along the inner lash line, then blend.

I like using an angled brush for liquid eyeliner. I use the one from MAC, I'm not sure of the number because it rubbed off (before I learned how to stop that from happening). Obviously, you don't need a MAC angled brush, but I like it because it is thin so I can get a thinner line if I want. So if you go with an angled brush, make sure it is thin in width to give you more versatility. I find that with the angled brush I have greater control than with the pointy brush and it's almost like when I'm using a pencil to line.

As for hands, I don't switch. I only use my right hand. I think liner would be everywhere if I used my left hand Laughing

My one tip is something that I used to do when I was younger. I would close my eyes and then hold down my lashes with my left pointer finger and line my lid with my right. This would keep my eye down, but not clamped shut, so I could line correctly and I would stabilize my right hand on my cheek. Also, if you find that while you're holding down your lashes, your eye is still trying to squish the brush, try raising your brows at the same time as when you are lining/holding down lashes. If liquid liners are tough, you can always start with gel liners using a brush. Same effect for the most part. If you're set on liquid liner, take the brush/liner and do short strokes from the centre out. And keep in mind, up close it may look completely off, but not many people will be as close to you as you are to the mirror.
If the short strokes still don't work (and try this technique a couple of times to get the hang of it) then use the liner and don't worry if it comes out uneven - just get it as close to your lashes. Then take your q-tip with makeup remover and just go over the lined parts that you don't want. After this - your liner should look straight and once the eye remover has dried then apply eyeshadow and you should be fine. Use this tech if you want a thick part to the liner just draw a thick line and then use the q-tip with remover on to mold it how you want.
Hope this helps you on the quest to liquid liner. But don't forget - practice makes perfect. Keep trying, you'll find your niche!

and your tip regarding holding on the lashes and kind of arching the eyebrow wow really makes the eyes less shakey/blinking so i can put it on better Very Happy

Okay so this might not be the most time effective idea ever but, the reason liquid liner is so great is because it gives a much better look right? Well try first drawing your line with regular pencil liner as a sort of guide and then apply liquid liner over it. Practice does make perfect and maybe once you get used to following the strait line you won't need the pencil anymore. And like others mentioned, pulling the upper lid tight helps too! Wink

I've just checked how I do it... not only resting the elbow on a flat surface, but putting the heel of the hand on the cheek, so that the fingers holding the brush sort of pivot from that.

I learned to apply mine in my teens and it got easy very quickly, much quicker than learning to use computer keyboard Cool

I think liquid eyeliners are a pain. So I've resorted to Gel Eyeliner which is fuss free and easy to use and smudgeproof as well! I'm using Maybelline's Gel Eyeliner which comes in a pot and a brush to line your eyes with the gel. It's so easy to use and the angles of the brush help to outline your eyes easily. Go switch to gel eyeliners! Laughing

Squint eyes, barely having them open and use light featherstrokes from the inner to outer eye. I find having a magnified mirror helps.
