I just wanted to update on the status of my skin. I have been trying 3 new things (thanks to this forum!) that have worked a near miracle for me:

1. 20% Azelaic acid cream
2. Once a day cleansing with Clarisonic using a cleanser with alpha and beta hydroxy acids. I started my first week with the delicate brush, then moved to the sensitive brush on my second week, followed by the normal brush the week after.
3. Omega 7 from Sea Buckthorn oil (I also take the seed flavone).

I've added the above in addition to my regular regimen (Cod liver oil, Ginger, Biosil, MSM, vitamin C).

So far, this combination is working wonders for me. I am even able to eat foods that used to trigger severe acne breakouts!! (highly refined sugary foods)

The red spots that had been there for years have disappeared and the scars are even fading -although I know the deeper ones will likely remain. This has been such a boost to my self esteem!

I don't know if this will help everyone, because, in severe cases hormone levels need to be checked and addressed, but the above 3 things seem to be extremely effective as an adjunct therapy for resolving acne in my personal experience.

Note that it's best to avoid going directly over an active acne breakout with the clarisonic brush as this might spread the bacteria.

One of the interesting things the clarisonic did is cause persistent acne lesions and white heads that were under the skin to be pushed up. I mean, at first I was confused, because I suddenly saw a lot of black heads, white heads and some breakouts. These were not "new" breakouts if you know what I mean. They were in the exact spots I had persistent acne. The type that would heal and come back.

Right now, I have 2 tiny blemishes in those persistent areas. I'm hoping once cleared, they will not come back again. Other than that, my skin looks very similar to the way it was when I was 25 before my adult acne started-if only the scarring would be completely erased!

I'm 200% happy with the results and am very thankful for everyone who shared their experiences and recommendations! Smile

Thanks for sharing. I'm happy for you that you conquered your acne problem. Where did you buy the 20% Azelaic acid cream?

Thank you. I wonder if this is Over-the-counter?

Initially, I bought an over the counter formulation with 10% Azelaic Acid (see my BENEV review). This is sold by EDS. I noticed it was working so I got a doctor's note, because the 20% formulation is NOT over the counter.

To be honest, I can not tell the difference between the 10% and 20% formulations. I think they both work equally well for me.

See this discussion for full details about Azelaic acid:

I feel Lavender Oil is helpful for acne. And it's natural and will not be a burden on the skin.

Morphy, thanks for posting this. Azaleic acid has helped me so much, as I've posted on that thread. I think the Clarisonic is next on my wishlist - hopefully in the next few months. I've certainly read a lot about it over the past year or so, and I'll obsessively research it before I actually buy, but I'm getting closer!
