So I've been using Obagi for a quite a few months now and the only thing that happens is a lot of peeling. My skin doesn't look or feel any better except for the nice peeling of the skin. Sad

I'm sad to say that I've given up on obagi. I've been wanting to try it for years and now that I have spent a lot of money, I still have unopened bottles. After a few months and no improvements, I'm saying Good-bye, Obagi!

I hear such great reviews and wanted so much for this to work for me. I have a lot of freckles that I wanted lightened. I guess I'll just have to try something different.

Are you posting this because you are asking for Obagi advice?

If so, can you start by telling us your Obagi regimen...what products you are using and how often?

Are you using any additional non-Obagi products?

Is a professional helping you with your program?

Hi Luckylady,

I'm sorry to hear that you're not happy with the Obagi regimen you're on. Since you've spent so much money on the products, I would definitely see if Bethany (or any of the other forum members familiar with the product line) can help you determine if there is a step or product that you're missing.

I know that the Obagi Nu Derm regimen is definitely something that needs to be used in a particular order - and in particular amounts. (I don't know which products you're using - or which line.) Perhaps it's not too late to get some additional help to see if you can get the results you want?

Best of luck, whatever you decide. Smile

Luckylady, how long have you used Obagi? I just finished 24 weeks but I love the result but not fully satisfying..since my freckles are fading but not completely disappeared yet. my skin got improved . why don't you try a few more weeks to see if it works?

I'm sorry to hear that, luckylady. Did you use all the products in the line, and most importantly did you use the Correct amount of each product? It makes all the difference using the correct amount.

luckylady I am sorry to hear that Obagi didn't work for you - I myself was just posting on another thread that I am returning to Obagi after a year because of the major difference in my skin without it.

Did you use it for the full 18 week start up time? I only ask because you really will look worse not better for almost that period of time.

Alley: I thought that you are supposed to go on the maintenance regime after Obagi? Did you stop completely?

mlrox yes you are supposed to go on maintenance after 18 - 24 weeks but I was stupid never did the maintenance routine and then stopped completely.

Me, too! That is why I am repeating the entire 18 weeks now. Very important for anyone who is on Nu Derm to remember that, please stay on maintenance or your skin will slowly revert back to the way it was prior to Nu Derm, and you will have to repeat the whole process! Very Happy

justinapan, Nu Derm is a great skin care system that works for hyperpigmentation, as well as fine lines/wrinkles. If people use the entire system and use the correct amount of the products, along with a high quality sunscreen, it can completely change your skin. If you use 1-2 products from the system, don't use it for the entire length of time, don't use the correct amount of products, you will NOT get good results. Do a search here on EDS for Obagi. There are a lot of threads on this, as well as a wealth of information in all of the threads.

After I finish Obagi, I don't plan on following the standard maintenance program. I plan on using a european SPF 60 sunscreen rigorously, using retin A faithfully, but as for the Hydroquinone, I dont plan on using it forever, because its supposedly hard on the body. Although I have a bit of pigmentation probs, they are really quite minor compared to many. My main problems are fine wrinkles and large pores which I hope the retin A solves. I wonder if anyone been able to maintain their results without continuing to use Hydroquinone forever?

amonavis, on maintenance, you only need to use the Clear and Exfoderm just twice a week, so I don't think you would be getting too much HQ. But, that is an individual choice, and I certainly understand what you are saying. Good luck to you if you decide not to do maintenance. I hope you will come around and let us know how your skin does/looks!

Thank you everyone for the encouragement and support. I have followed all the rules and steps when using obagi. I definitely had the peeling going on, but sadly thats all. I've decided to just stop using as a whole and just embrace my skin as is (freckles and all). Smile

luckylady have you considered trying the Obagi C line instead of the NuDerm? The C line is designed more for pigmentation and does not use retin-A so you won't be peeling.
If you have unopened bottles of NuDerm maybe you could exchange them? Just a thought.

I don't use Obagi, but from what I read about it, it seems the best benefits are achieved over long term use.... Isn't that why they recommend it for 18 weeks to start?

So I believe 18 weeks would be about 3 skin cycles, so if you have significant damage to start, that might just be touching the surface.. Then with continued use, the healing might speed up.

If it were me, I'd be relishing the 'peeling', because that is clearly what you want, and looking forward to the good stuff that will eventually surface... Very Happy

When we think about the lifetime it took for the damage to show, 18 weeks doesn't seem too long for things to *slowly* improve..

Okay, I'll shut up now, and go back to what I really know ... Laughing Laughing Laughing

That is a great post, Kassy. You are dead on. 18 weeks is 3 skin cycles, but some people need more than that.

I agree with "relishing the peeling", as it is what you want. You can "see" that something is happening and it is a good thing! I also agree, 18 weeks is no time at all to have great improvement in ones skin.
