My daughter (who has melasma) has been advised to try CosMedix Refine 4% retinol cream instead of the Retin-A 0.1% that she has been using for the last few months.
Are any of you familiar with this product? And do you think 4% retinol is stronger than 0.1% Retin-A?
The CosMedix product can be viewed here:

I doubt that any retinol product is stronger than Retin A. There's also abundant anecdotal evidence from folks who've moved from strong retinol products to Retin A that they find Retin A to be stronger, or at least more irritating. Sadly, some of us have skin that doesn't cope well with the higher irritation factor, so I use an OTC retinoid in preference to Retin A. But Retin A is what I'd use if I could. |

Well, that is my understanding also. My daughter's skin tolerates Retin-A very well, no irritation at all. However, she was advised to try the CosMedix cream by the nurse at her dermatologist's office when she went there to discuss her melasma. I guess we'll have to wait and see if there's an improvement in her skin. |

Yup - that website says it well. Retinoids work better than retinols. I'm sure you're right, too, about some skin care ppl not knowing much. I find that to be very true.
For melasma, has your daughter tried any other products (in conjunction w/ Retin A)? Isn't niacinamide suppose to be good for things like that? Or copper peptides? Just a thought. I don't have any of those issues, so I tend to stay away from those threads. |

My daughter has tried just about everything for her melasma - I think it's hormonal and she seems to be going backwards at the moment. I think she's going to try IPL after Christmas. It was whilst she was enquiring about the IPL that she was persuaded to buy the CosMedix - I'm pretty annoyed about that because it was AUD$150.00 - she should have just stuck with the Retin-A. |
