I had bunion surgery about 11 years ago on my right foot (had no choice I was in a lot of pain). Well now I need it on my left foot and I am wondering if anyone out there has had this type of surgery recently and what was done. When I had it 11 years ago, I was in a cast for 3-4 weeks, with a pin in my foot that had to be removed. Wondering if the surgery has changed and what results anyone has had. I know I can't hold off much longer, but I want to make sure I make the right choice with doctors. |

I had bunion surgery about the same time that you did, only I had both feet done at the same time. I didn't have a radical surgery, no pin, no breaking of the big toe. Oh I had doctors that wanted to do that and put me in a cast but I choose to go with a doctor with a more conservative approach. Eleven years later I have perfect pretty, happy feet I can stand on all day in heels if I need to. The procedure I had invovled the bunion being shaved off, then I was in a special boot looking shoe for a month. I graduated into a tennis shoe and by six weeks into a regular shoe. A friend of mine had the same surgery as I did last year on one foot. She later moved and six months later had the other foot done in a different city by a different doctor. He did the more radical surgery and she had more recuperation and less satisfaction with the results. After saying all of that, I would get three opinions and it does matter how extensive the bunion is to what type of surgery you need. But.....check around and talk to people that have had it done by the surgeon you are thinking about. |
