I got a haircut with bangs for the first time in years, and I need to use quite a bit of hairspray to make them behave.

Problem is, my boyfriend often kisses me on the top of my head, which is a little gesture I really treasure. But with hairspray on he really hates it!

This is the guy for whom I switched to lip stain instead of sticky gloss. Smile I'm determined to find a solution! But every spray I've tried still grosses him out.

Anyone else have an issue like this, or recommendations for a non-stinky, non-yucky-tasting, non-alcoholic hairspray that still holds hair in place?

Good question, ginnieliz. You could try Davines which smells more like vanilla. Or what about flat-ironing them into place and not using any spray?
There's a spray I used to get at a salon called "B" that comes in a pink aerosol can that smells like sugar candy that's not too bad.

i use aveda's "pure abundance" hairspray... it is non-aerosol but does have alcohol in it (is there a hairspray that doesn't?). after it's dry it doesn't smell like much of anything... just sort of light and slightly minty-herbal.

in the interest of, er... research, i sprayed some on the back of my hand, waited for it to dry, then kissed my hand a few times. i didn't taste anything, really. so, out of curiosity, i tasted it.Shock it's a little bitter, but not gag-inducingly so. but... as long as he's not licking your head this shouldn't be a problem i guess.

now the mad scientist in me wonders if adding some vanilla or other essential oil would make for a more pleasant smelling hairspray...

Ha, the hairspray is for AFTER I flat-iron my wily bangs for ten minutes. Smile But it sounds like you two have some good ideas! Fawnie, do you know if B was the brand or product name? And I'm pretty sure Aveda has trial sizes so that helps.

I used to use Sebastian Shaper because I got a giant can at Costco. But when Grant complained of the smell/taste, I tried a Paul Mitchell spray that the Ulta gal swore smelled just like grapefruit. Lies! It smelled (and tasted, I'm told) like alcohol and hairspray!

I've always liked aerosol sprays better for styling, but I may have to cave and get a non-aerosol one so I can add EOs (good idea!). But I'm excited to try out these suggestions. Thanks!

hmmmm....I will have to check at the salon and find out the exact name of the product. It was a very light hold spray, as I recall, so maybe you are looking for something stronger, in which case, Davines is good.

Thank you, fawnie! I'm so glad I finally thought to post about this. Smile

Check this out:

I've never used an organic hairspray so don't know what they're like. But there might be something of interest here.

Can you cover your forehead with a towel or a piece of paper before you spray?

Heh, I didn't really explain this well, but he kisses my head/hair right where the spray lands. (It's the easiest to reach spot from his height, I guess?) Ha, I bet he'd be amused and sheepish to know that I've described this action in great detail to my skincare forum!

By the way, Frodo, I love your signature! Laughing

Ellenet is a great hairspray, lower on the sticky factor. You can now get it at Target in the USA.

Ginnieliz, is there a Sephora near you? If so, you might go and test drive Ojon's aerosol hairspray. It's the only one I use! It smells so nice, I even wear it to bed--- and whenever I do, DH says "Mmmm, you smell good!"^-^

I was just wondering, will it make my hair "crunchy"? Very Happy

Ooh, I love the scent of *most* Ojon stuff -- good idea! I had a really bad experience with their dry shampoo recently, AND it smelled nothing like their usual signature scent, so I didn't think of them.

I'll have to test drive as many as I can on my next Sephora run... Something tells me I'll be coming home with helmet hair! Laughing

I buy Pantene hairspray for bouncy curls. It helps to keep my hair under control, but also allow it to move. It's not crunchy at all and sometimes feels as though I'm not actually wearing any hairspray at all when I touch my hair.

Okay, so far I tried out the Ojon, and he was overwhelmed by the fragrance and didn't like it! Sad Which is a bummer since I adore that signature Ojon scent. Back to the drawing board... I think I'm going to try and track down Davines next. There are a couple of Seattle salons that seem to carry it, so that's a relief!

Hi ginnielizz, here is something else you might want to try. It's called Suncoat and it's made with multi-sugar (polysaccharides), not plastics. It also has vitamin E and flax protein and is alcohol free. I haven't tried it but my sister gives it rave reviews.www.suncoat.ca
