As I mentioned in the Valmont eye mask review (which, I still maintain, is THE best eye mask ever: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=31999) I've gone a little bit nuts and bought all sorts of different eye sheet masks to see how/if they work and if any come close to the Valmont ones.
Mirenesse advertises this mask as something that "Helps smooth and soften the appearance of fine lines and puffiness, helps increase firmness, brightness and optimise elasticity of the eye area.". The masks come in individual packets (1 set of two masks) for $10 each. They're stuck on a plastic sheet that you peel off to reveal a gel-like surface that does not feel too moist (which I found surprising). The back of the mask is felt like material and feels dry to the touch. Similar to other eye masks, you apply under the eyes and keep on for about 20 minutes or so before you peel them off (after which you're meant to apply eye cream). Because the mask is pretty dry and also sticky, you can actually walk around with the masks on without worrying about anything dripping off or them sliding off your face.
So, verdict? I only bought two packets since, as much as I like most of Mirenesse makeup, my experience with the rest of the Mirenesse skincare line is not great. I'm glad I didn't buy more because this mask did nothing for me. I did feel that it hydrated the eye area a bit and it did smooth it as well, but nothing particularly impressive. What I noticed most is that it did tighten the skin. The mask is supposed to improve "brightness" - when I took off the mask the area where it had been was lighter than the rest of the skin (temporarily) but it was a superficial lightness. Something that, for example, might come from differences in blood circulation. I hate to compare it to the Valmont (given the price difference it may not be fair to do so) but the Valmont brightened the eye area from underneath the skin, it got rid of (temporarily but for longer) the visible veins, darkness in the lower corners of the eyes, whereas with this mask the skin looks lighter but all the darkness underneath remains. I hope that makes sense, I'm not having a particularly articulate day today
Perhaps if I had wrinkles and problems with sagging then the mask might have a better opportunity to impress since I did feel it tighten a bit. Instead of using the second set, I will give it to a friend (not that she has wrinkles or sagging skin) and will ask her for an opinion on it.
Bottom line, I'm not a fan and it didn't do much for me and my current skin care needs. I'm also surprised that it wasn't more moisturising. |
