Hello everyone,
I stumbled upon this wonderful forum while looking for a good facial moisturizer and have since learned a lot of valuable information.
However, I am wondering are some of the tips and products being recommended worthwhile for someone such as myself, a 30yr/old male?
I have started to see some wrinkles on my face and having recently moved to california I am faced with more sun exposure so I would like to take the proper care to keep my skin looking healthy and young.
Problem is there is SO much information out there for women but I am having an incredibly hard time finding anything that is for men. I could care less about what the packaging looks like and Im not against using products for developed with women in mind, I would just really like to know what is recommended for someone like me.
With that in mind, my skin is good shape, I dont suffer from ance problems, it's more on the dry side and I dont have many blemishes. My biggest concern are the bags under my eyes that seem to be getting worse as I age.
I have been using Oil of Olay daily SPF 15 moisturizer on my face and Revale Daily replenishing eye therapy under my eyes.
I read getting a physical sunscreen like Bioderma is a good idea but does it work as a daily moisturizer?
What is a good cream at night? I have some Oil of Olay firming cream but am looking for something a bit more natural as I read lots of the mainstream creams have products in them that may be detrimental to your skin.
Lastly, would something like Retin-A be a worthwhile product for under my eyes? I read several posts about it but am still unsure if its something that I can use.
Any other recommendations and suggestions would be great!

Hi Pete, and welcome!
First, I would recommend that you up your SPF to at least 30. That is the minimum you should wear on a daily basis even if you have minimal exposure to sun walking to/from car for lunch etc. If you plan on being outside for an extended period, definitely increase the SPF. Physical sunscreen is the preferred sunscreen of choice for most on this forum but regardless of what type you get, it should be broad spectrum (UVA and UVB). While SPF does have emollients in them, they are not necessarily meant to be moisturizers so if you are concerned about lack of moisture for your skin, use your moisturizer of choice then layer on your sunscreen over the top.
As it relates to skincare for men, most products are marketed for women because, well, we are the ones that will buy them! But I would say that in general, skincare is not technically formulated specifically for women's skin. Most of the products out there will work as well for men as they do for women.
You mention Retin-A for your eyes. You can use this for your eyes but it should be used sparingly and only 1-2 times per week. The skin around the eye is much thinner and delicate. I would suggest the .025% cream (not the gel). Retin A would also be excellent for the rest of your face and you are at a good age to start using it to maintain what you have rather than correct, like I am trying to do. You can buy generic Retin A for very cheap ($3-5/tube) from overseas pharmacies such as alldaychemist.com.
Might I also suggest that you use a vitamin c serum as an antioxidant, which will help to eliminate free radicals and prevent future damage. A popular one on this forum is Skinceuticals CE Ferulic. You can buy sample bottles that approximate the retail bottle for a fraction of the price. You can also look in the DIY forum for recipes if you want to save even more $$ and make your own.
As for eye cream, doesn't seem to be any one particular product that has a a major following on this forum but there have been posts in this forum specifically regarding eye creams you can refer to.
Finally, you should try exfoliating at least once a week to slough off dead skin that may by contributing to any dullness or uneven skin texture.

I actually used to buy more "men" items for myself from Lancome and Clinique.
Clinique before they never had "face gel for women" but a men's one that was cheaper.
Now years later there is a women's face gel..abd obv it is more expensive than the men's and the exact same.
exept the men's is in a tube and the women a bottle w a pump.
I also have the lancome men's eye gel, it was around $15 less then the women's fragrance free.
I don't really have any skincare advice, but I think most men's and women's products are very similar- exept for the packaging and sometimes fragrance.
Even now Dove  has a "men's body wash" in a grey bottle.... |

I guess if you are seeking "reasurance" I'll post my ex-bf story and comments on skincare.
These are really true also 
One ex-bf from a few years ago he told me he really liked green apple soaps and baths with peach shower gel.
Same guy his mother used to sell some skincare line, so he was actually told that it was good to use toner too...and he used to get into my skincare things all the time.
Same guy one of his friends worked at Lush, they have a lot of natural soaps ect, so he was always getting tons of small things from there free.
This guy, his roomates 2 other guys they had a bathroom full of cosmetics stuff, soaps ect..
These guys are between 25-35 yrs of age.

Now the last guy I was going out with (who was so annoying too....).
He was on TV sometimes and an artist...and he used to borrow and try to steal my MUFE (makeup forever) powder and concealers

One of my really good guy friends he is French and his excuse for liking perfumes like Gaultier and collecting others is that "he is french"

| Anyone concerned with aging should be using Retin A (cream form better for dryer skin), and a good sunscreen (which is all trial and error unforunately and will cost some money figuring out which one you like, but yes, this should act like a "moisturizer" of sorts as most are a little greasy). Some perks to throw in would be antioxidants (C, E, etc.) topically and an AHA product. |

Thank you all for the very good advice.
Im going to order up some of the mentioned products and get a better sunscreen.
Ill also look into exfoliating, I never thought I would need it but I am actually excited to try it out. |
