This is my first review (and first post), so please be gentle!
I'm a male nearing 30 with typical combination skin - oily in parts, dry in others, sensitive all around, prone to redness and the odd blemish. I've been on the hunt for the perfect, inexpensive face cleanser for some time, and have come across Clinique's line of liquid facial "soaps". I always thought Clinique was expensive for some reason, but it's not terrible compared to other brands (but not as cheap as the drugstore).
The texture of the Extra Mild cleanser is creamy and light, with little to no smell. It goes on smoothly with no lather, and rinses well for an oil-based cleanser. My face felt soft and cleansed (for the time-being).
What I was ultimately hoping for was something that cleansed a bit more thoroughly than Cetaphil, which this did, but at the cost of leaving my skin feeling slightly tight and dry afterwards. For the price ($14.50 CDN), I'll stick with Cetaphil for these drier winter months, but will retry when summer approaches.
Description from website:
All the benefits of Clinique’s famous dermatologist-developed facial soap in a new liquid formula. Cleanses without stripping protective lipids. Preps skin for the exfoliating action of Clarifying Lotion. Convenient pump dispenses just the right amount. Custom-fit to skin type in Very Dry to Dry, Dry Combination and Combination Oily/Oily skin formulas.

Thank you for the review, dpenn, and welcome to the forum.
The ingredients in this cleanser seem to be pretty good, as opposed to some other Clinique products. Their face tonic contains a high amount of alcohol and was very drying... |

I've been very selective with the Clinique products I've been testing, because as you said, many contain several irritants and often overdose on alcohol content.
I'm a regular user of their Mild Clarifying Lotion, which seems to be the only gentle toner they currently offer. It has no alcohol, and has gentle exfoliating properties with a small amount of salicylic acid. I'll probably write a small review for that next...I hope people don't begin to think I'm a Clinique insider! |
