| I really want to know why. I have tried three different brands, Everyday mineral, Baremineral and Jane..(Sorry I forget its name), but all of them dry my skin. Eeverday mineral is a bit better than the other two because it only dries the part under my nose and around my mouth, and the other two dry my whole face. Is MMU not fit for my skin? I think I have layered enough moistruriser and can't layer more. It is really bad I can't use MMU ortherwise I do like my look after Everyday mineral which is very easy and fast to apply and very natural, excpet the part under my nose and around my mouth. Could anyone suggest me how to handle this problem? |

Liangzhiz, I had the same problem in the area around my nose. After 1 week of using Bioelements Quick Refiner this flaky skin disappeared. Maybe you can give it a try.  |

| First, exfoliate. Then moisturize. The key to using MMU is to use is sparingly. When I first started using MMU I really laid it on thick - about a dime size amount for the entire face but only a smidgeon is required. When I layer it on too thick it's really noticeable around my nose and mouth area. It's best to apply one layer then move away from the mirror for a few minutes then touch up where necessary. It takes a few minutes for the MMU to meld into your skin. |

Thanks Penelope for your respond. But the problem is I don't think I layer MMU too thick, actually it is very thin. I don't feel dry immediately right after I put on MMU, but when I go out off door walking in street, I feel my skin around my mouth and under my nose gets dried. Even though I keep on layering more cream in this place, it doesn't help. In the afternoon, I can see some skin starts to go off.  |

This is what I was going to suggest. My face will get dry too wearing MMU depending on what sort of day it is. I use the Juice Beauty Hydrating mist if I'm feeling a little dehydrated. And, yup, I agree with the other ladies, less is more when it comes to MMU.
If none of this works, I'd suggest a tinted moisturizer, or foregoing foundation altogether and using just concealor and powder. |

I'm having this same problems, with all brands of MMU foundation. On my whole face though, expecially my forehead and cheeks.
Today I tried a setting powder alone(EveryDay minerals), and I'm fine. So what is it in the MMU foundation that would cause moisture to be sucked out of the skin? THe fact that the setting powder (with cornstarch) isn't doing that to me makes me think that it's something about MMU foundation. |

I have the same problem with most MMU, and I've tried almost all of them. The two that have almost no drying effect on my already dry skin are:
Larenim - very light coverage
Aromaleigh - covers a little better
A good setting spray does seem to help, and I also spritz my face with one periodically on days when my face seems a bit drier or flakier than usual. I also find that mixing a little emu oil with HA serum, applying it, and letting it absorb for a good half hour before using MMU really helps a lot. |

I just started using MMU -- Jane Iredale pressed base (Bisque). Like Penelope, I laid it on too thick the first time and it really made my skin look dry. My cheeks looked especially dry after I applied MMU blush (Barely Rose) -- yikes!
I now use much less product -- only a slight dusting (I'm not into excessive buffing though -- too irritating). And I apply blush before foundation, to avoid two layers. This is working for me and my cheeks don't look dry now.
My sunscreen is relatively oily, so I don't need more moisture right now (it's the end of summer here). But I've heard from another source lonevoice's suggestion about emu oil being good under MMU when one's skin is dry. Maybe you should try some around your nose and mouth and see if it helps, liangzhiz.
I'm curious how MY skin will look in winter when it's no longer humid -- I wonder if MMU will look dry on me. I may have to get some hyaluronic acid too just in case, since I do really like the coverage that a little bit of MMU affords. I spritzed at first when I was applying too much, and it definitely helps create a dewier finish. I don't need to spritz now that I'm using less, but I'll probably start up again in winter.
I wonder if Caudalie Elixir would be a good spritzer? I've been looking for an excuse to buy it after reading all of the raves here on the forum.
liangzhiz, are you using a nighttime treatment for those dry areas? If not, maybe you should! Emu oil would be a good product to start with. You may even want to use a mild glycolic or other AHA to get rid of your dry skin. Or what about the Dermologica Microfoliant? It's gentle but very popular. |

Definitely a good exfoliation product - I use Epidermx - to great rid of any flakiness.
A good, very hydrating moisturiser, leaving time for it to sink in before applying your MMU.
Then, as others have said, a light layer of MMU. I have very dry skin and found that buffing the MMU powder into my skin with a brush (like Jane Iredale's Handi Brush), then finishing off by gently buffing with a flocked sponge worked really well for me. This stopped the MMU showing up in lines or pores.
The finishing touch is a hydrating spritz. I used the Jane Iredale one, but there are other good ones available too.
Oh, and the loose powder bases seem to be far better on dry skin than the pressed ones. |

Thanks all for your suggestion.
I have tried to used moisturizer mask every night this week since I tried mmu samples. However, it doesn't seem it helps. Today I tried to put on normal cream foundation from Paul & Joe, it doesn't dry my skin.
I am hesitated to try moisturizer sprits because I am afraid the liquid will move down along my face then destroy the makeup. |

| The description for EMMU intensive coverage claims it will not dry skin nor make it oily. Yet I agree, it is drier on me than my liquid foundation, especially if I use the monistat primer. I think I will try the emu oil trick and see. |

| liangzhiz - The spritzes are usually very fine and you only need a quick spray. Although I too originally shared your concerns about it making the make-up run, this didn't happen. Instead, it sets the make-up and gives it a more dewy effect. |

Hi There. I had similar issues with mineral powder makeup. I tried Bare Escentuals and Jane Iredale but wasn't thrilled with either one.
I am now using Pur Minerals. It has shea butter in with the mineral powder which adds moisture. It comes in a compact like a pressed powder, but it goes on very light and even with their special "Chisel brush". Added bonus: no dust flying around the bathroom!
I was concerned that it would make me break out, but it has not. My skin looks better with it than with Bare Escentuals.
For moisturization, I also use Emu Oil mixed in with my serums and lotions, and I find that really helps with dry skin. Good luck! |

This question seems to come up on a continual basis. I think many people have the same problem with MMU. I gave up on it in the end and now use a tinted moisturiser which I find much more flattering.
Check outwww.ncnproskincare Nanci has two mineral products that I both use: Firming Liquid Minerals and Mineral Sheer Tint. Both are excellent products, are easy to apply and don't leave your face looking like a mask. |

I had the same problem when I first tried using MMU. After switching to different brands and still experiencing the same cracking skin, itching feeling around my nose, I found out that the problem was the type of makeup brushes I was using. All the natural haired kabuki brushes that everybody raved about were still too harsh for my skin and tore it up everytime I used them. It was only after I switched to synthetic brushes that I got rid of the redness and dry flaking skin when I used mineral makeup. |
