Hello
I have 6 weeks left on the Nuderm regimen and I have been reading numerous threads on the ZO skin health. I was just wondering what sort of products I should encorporate into my regimen once I go to the maintenance part of the system. I have been reading a lot of what some of the ladies are saying about ZO's RNR but I just can't simply afford to spend that much especially when I will have to purchase more Obagi products for the maintenance part. Any tips or advice as so what products I can switch out for the ZO or vice versa? Should I just leave it the way it is. I am just looking for the best results and best way to get to it.

Jeffiner, for the Nu Derm maintenance, ZO recommends using the Growth Factor Serum, as well as adding in 1 of the Ommerse products (both if you want, but I think you could get away with just using either the day or night creme). Otherwise, you can use whichever cleanser, either the ZO or the Nu derm. Same goes for the sunscreen, you can use Nu Derm or the ZO, whichever you prefer.

With the ZO cleanser you don't need the toner, so that may be something to think about. (You can also use the C-RX line cleanser - you don't need a toner with that either).

Hi Riley, I've finished my Obagi Nu-Derm program (20 weeks), following with your suggestion in EDS, I ordered a set of "ZO Skin Health DNA Repair Program Kit" (with four items inside) . When I opened the package today, I found the EXFOLIATING CLEANSER is for Normal to Oily Skin. I am not sure if I should start to use it yet, since MY skin is dry . Do you know if there is another set for Dry and Sensitive Skin? Or, I could just use this one I got?

Thank you very much!

Hi, Helen. From what I can recall, all the ZO kits for some reason just use the exfoliating cleanser. ZO does have another cleanser for normal/dry skin that several users have liked better than the exfoliating cleanser. It would be nice if ZO gave a choice of cleansers in the kit, but that is not the case. All you can do is try the exfoliating cleanser and see how you do. It is not really drying to be honest with. If you don't like the exfoliating cleanser, you have several options. You can use the Nu Derm cleanser/toner, you can switch over to the C-RX cleanser (as that does not require a toner with it), or you can purchase the ZO hydrating cleanser! Good luck and hope that helps!

I was talking to a representative of the ZO line and she says she recommends the exfoliating cleanser to just about everyone, except people who are addicted to moisturizer. She says because the exfoliating cleanser has the beads in it it is another way to help activate the skin cells and wake them up. I have been using the hydrating cleanser because I don't have oily skin but she said she recommends the exfoliating cleanser (I don't know if it is because that is the cleanser in the DNA kit and they want people to buy the kit). I haven't tried the exfoliating cleanser yet so I can't give you my impressions of it. But, since you have the exfoliating cleanser maybe you should at least go ahead and give it a try.

I have dry skin and have no issues with the exfoliating cleanser. Though I really do not like those big beads they have in there. Mad

Hi Riley, Jom and Bethany, thanks for all your nice suggestions. Anyway I will go on it to see, just still wonder if the exfoliating cleanser was suitable for everyone, why they bothered to print on the bottle "normal to oily skin", because it's really easy to confuse people that there maybe another kit for "dry to normal skin". Thanks again ! Very Happy

Hi Riley, I've used ZO cleanser for a while, it seems a little too DRY for me,don't like the feeling, now I switched back to NU DERM gentle cleanser, feel much better. I have another problem now, when I went on the maintenance (2-3 times Nu-Derm, other times ZO kits), I found the skin was not as good as when I use NU-DERM for full time. I wonder if I could use Clear FX and Blender FX every day, instead of the maintenance routine? since I am a little worried about the Hydroquione in Nu-Derm clear and blender. Thanks for your help!

Hi, Helen. You can definitely try the FX products daily, or you can up your usage of the Nu Derm products (you could try Clear 3 days a week and RA/Blender 5 nights a week) to see if that gets you better results. The maintenance is really trial and error to see what the minimum amount is that you can get away with using. Good luck!

Some people get lucky and can control their pigmentation with just Retin A and a sunscreen after the 18 weeks. Most, however, are not that lucky. You do need to stay on maintenance after the initial 18 weeks. So, that is very important to think about when you are deciding if you want to go on Nu Derm or not.

Thank you for the info. Can we use other skin care products for the days not using maintenance stuff?

Definitely. You can use whatever you want on the days you are not using the Nu Derm products.

The Nu-derm commitment is so huge - 18 weeks. I had no idea. I haven't followed this product and did not know what it was about. I hope those who follow it with faith get the results they deserve.

I would say that probably 98% are extremely happy with their skin after the 18 weeks. Some may need to go on and do another 6 to totally knock out the pigmentation. It really is a great line, but the only drawback is the fact that a person usually has to continue with the Hydroquinone a few times a week to keep the pigmentation at bay, and sometimes a few times a week of the HQ is not enough and you need to use it more often. Otherwise, it is just like any other topical product on the market, you have to continue on them, or your skin is slowly going to revert back to how it was prior to using the product!
