I'm embarassed to ask this, but there have been a number of threads about how hard it is to remove European high UVA-UVB protective sunscreens. I've been using Anthelios and Avene's high test sunscreens for a couple of years now and I think I'm removing them okay. But how would you know? Once applied and sunk it, they aren't visible anymore. I'm not using an oil based cleanser--just PSF's Green Tea Cleansing Milk and the Clarisonic. So...am I fooling myself when I think I'm getting all that stuff off? And how would I know for certain if I'm not? |

I would think that anything applied to skin would be gone once you cleanse your skin. It sounds like you are doing this efficiently. I wouldn't worry about it. |

Hi flitcraft
I often wonder the same thing since hearing how difficult it is to remove Sofina et al. I used Fancl cleansing oil when I used Sofina and assumed I was getting it all off. I know I did have breakouts of pimples before using oil to remove that SS.
I switched to Devita SS which seems to be easier to remove, but wonder about the protection of that SS since it isn't rated by FDA.
Good question and I will watch for the definitive answer too! |

I think upon using any cleanser the SS should be removed. Previously i doubted the ability of my milk cleanser to remove SS because the cleanser is just so milky on application. however upon washing the face with water and drying. I just touch my skin and it feels quite clean but still hydrated. If your cleanser is not removing your SS then i reckon your skin would be quite clogged
if really in doubt then you can just use a makeup remover cleanser first followed by your normal cleanser |

Well, that's good question!
I use bioderma makeup remover to wipe the face first, however, I could not see anything on the tissue if there's no makeup, and then use the regular cleaser. I hope this could remove all the sun screen.
I don't know whether the regular gently cleanser could work on the sun screen, mine is estee lauder gently cleaser. |

Yes,I have heard that sunscreen will do harm to your face if wash not clearly. So I wash twice.First I use Shu Uemura cleansing oil,and then use cleansing foam again. So after twice wash,I found my face is clear. The most important is that after a few days I do not find any spot on my face at all.I think maybe that way is good. |

The thing is, being nearly 60 years old, I'm not likely to get blemishes if I've left stuff on my face. It just doesn't happen anymore. So, does that mean I don't need to fret about it? |

Everytime I use sunscreen, I always use cleansing gel on dry skin to remove all impurity. After that wash my
face again with gentle cleanser. you feel bare face after that. |

Flit, I would worry about not getting the full effect of the products I use after cleansing. For instance, is the Retin-A penetrating my skin, or is it just sitting on top of a layer of SS?
Being "blessed" with formerly oily skin that has now calmed down to normal, it lets me know in a hurry if I put the "wrong" thing on, or don't cleanse properly------> huge and painful cysts. |

To remove sunscreen, use facial cleanser to remove sunscreen at night time. Leaving the sunscreen on your skin overnight could cause development of acne. |

uh oh simran, I know how that is! Do you think it's from a SS you've used? Or that time of the month?
I have used La Roche-Posay Effaclar A. I. as a spot treatment for those little devils and my experience is that if I use it at night, the blemish is nearly gone by morning. Or at least flat and shrunk enough that it's not painful any longer. I can use it several times during the day and it doesn't dry out the surrounding skin or make it red.
Many ppl have favorite home remedies, and there are prescription creams if they are a continual all month long thing. Hope this helps you! |

I dont think it can be SS cause i havnt changed anything. The only thing new i did after so long was apply the Phytomer Vegetal Peel Enzyme Mask. I am sure that is the culprit cause that was the only thing new Unless maybe my diet. But i am still pointing my finger to that mask |

Hi simran, maybe it could be "purging" if it happened after the peeling mask, I've had that happen. Not to hijack this thread, since it's on a different subject, but try the Effaclar A.I. We learn what works for us by trying a gazillion different things!! And what to stay away from! |

PS simran, La Roche-Posay Effaclar A.I. is available here at EDS. It prevents the dark marks after the blemish has gone. |

yeah sometimes I wonder about that too. BTW, a bit off topic, do u ladies find that your skin's dry after cleansing? Or is it just cuz my cleansing milk is too drying? It's just me but I feel that those greasy cleansers don't really remove my ss completely. |

If you want to make sure that all the cleanser and sunscreen is off follow up with toner on a pad. |

if you cleanse properly and do double cleanse, you should be safe. |

I often wonder about that as well. As others have said definitely when the sunscreen is too heavy I wash my face twice to get it off and with a cleanser that is a bit stronger. I also want the products I put on after to be able to penetrate. I just use a good quality facial type sunscreen lotion as I've had bad luck with the ones for the body used on the face or with cheap SS. |
