I've been taking 3000mg of MSM daily since last summer. I'm also applying a retinol cream (Skinceuticals) every other night.
Recently, I couldn't find the brand of MSM I've been using (from Now Foods) so I bought Doctor's best MSM instead.
After a couple of days of using that brand of MSM, I had an allergic reaction to my retinol cream.
Stopped taking MSM for a few days and then tried applying retinol again. No reaction this time. Just to make sure, I took MSM again for a couple of days and then applied the retinol cream in a small spot on my neck. Same allergic reaction.
A friend of mine mentioned that taking supplements containing sulphur could cause more side effects from using retinol, but I can't seem to find any information about that.
Also, I find it a bit strange that one brand of MSM caused a reaction, but not the brand I was using before...??
Does anybody have any insight on this?
Thanks in advance. |

Interesting...I also got some kind of really red spots on my neck. I had been taking 1000-2000 mg MSM for a about a month now (a Trader Joe's brand). About a week ago, i restarted applying Retin A. It has been about 3+ years ago since I used Retin A with my Obagi Nuderm line. I used the Retin A, this time, over my SuperCop. After a couple applications, what looked like allergic reaction on my neck appeared so I stopped using the Retin A/SuperCop for a while. The red spot is lightening up. I will use the Retin A again in a week or 2 and see if the red spots reappear. |

I am also taking MSM, using Retin-A at night, but I don't have the problem that you have mentioned. Does it have something to do with the brand and have you checked the content of your MSM? |

Content aside from MSM is just microcrystalline cellulose coating based from soy, silica, magnesium stearite.
The red marks have completely disappeared and some of the red skin are actually peeling off....so I will reapply Retin A again tonight. This time, with the Obagi Blender. |
