I have been ignoring my lips for the longest time and now they are dull, dry and dark. They use to be nice and red. How can I get the redness back?
thanks |

Keep 'em moisturized and healthy. Exfoliating once in awhile helps too, since dry, dead skin on the surface can make them look duller. I've also found that avoiding colored lip products like lipstick or gloss for awhile and sticking to lip balm helps my lips go back to their natural rosiness.
Avocado oil also apparently helps your lips stay moist and healthy and restores the color too. |

Exfoliating is major as dead cells make your lips look dull.
You can use a microfiber cloth or toothbrush to work on. Or there are products made for lip exfoliation (see Lips2Kiss, Sally Hansen, etc.). |

I wonder - why is that???
I remember when I was a teenager and wanted to look like a woman, so I used a coloured lipstick, my mom kept telling me that if I would use lipstick often being that young, I`ll get colorless lips later in life... is there any reason for that?? |

I would also suggest exfoliating and moisturising your lips. Try to always use something protective on your lips when go outside, like lip balm. |

I heard that in "old" days most of companies used harsh ingredients and colour chemicals. That is why may be your mother said to you that your lips will become colourless later in life. I don't think it is the case now, as most of companies watch for quality in their products. I think you may want to stay away from lip product that stained your lips and even if you take off the product from your lips the colour stays on the lips. I used one from L'Oreal and this lipstick made my lips really dry. |

I have no 'scientific' evidence to back this up. It's just something I've noticed in my own case. It could be that lipsticks and glosses tend to use drying ingredients and avoiding them + using moisturizing balms just restores your lips to their natural state of health. Consequently, they look rosier. |

I'm wondering if massaging them..as well as exfoliating them would help with circulation..on the 'ageless if you dare thread' there's a lot of talk about tugging, pinching facial and body skin to greatly rejuvenate it..seems like it would work here, too.
also, I wonder if improving your diet in some way would be effective for you... |

Try lightly brushing them with a soft toothbrush then applying vaseline overnight. |
