Has anyone tried the Jane Iredale Dream Tint or their liquid minerals? I haven't had much luck with putting the powder MMU on, it always ends up streaky on me. I have been thinking of trying the tint though. Is it covering or just like a light tinted moisturiser? Are the colors natural? It's hard to tell on their website.
Also if you have any tips on applying MMU and not having streaks or blotches, I'd be interested in hearing. I've tried both brushing in circles and lines. I've tried with a moisturiser under and without. Still no luck. |

Hi miss anna - I love all the JI products I use but since liquid foundation has never looked good on my skin, I haven't tried the product you're asking about.
So, I don't know if this will be of much help (especially if you truly require foundation coverage on your ENTIRE face), but my technique for using JI Pressed Base (or even the Loose Base) is this: I apply sunscreen first and while it's still quite moist (same advice would apply to moisturizer), using an eyeshadow brush I apply the foundation to my eye area (where I need concealing the most but the powder's enough -- I don't need an extra concealing product). I also apply it along the sides of my nose. Then I move on to eye makeup and by the time I'm done with that the SS has dried and I apply JI blush, using my favorite blush brush (MAC 187). THEN I go back to my eyeshadow brush and apply foundation ONLY where needed, even over the blush if there are any blotches. If I'm not careful and apply too much powder, spritzing with any JI sprays solves the problem. Actually, spritzing in any case (except during hot, humid weather) creates a dewy finish that I really like.
I bought the JI Handi Brush when I first started using this line but discovered I look best if I use a much smaller brush (I have a cheapie eyeshadow brush I got at CVS that has a larger brush at one end and a smaller, pointier brush at the other -- TRULY handy) and apply foundation more strategically -- ONLY where really needed. And it's best to tap any brush of excess powder before application -- you can always apply more layers if needed.
Also, since you say powder looks streaky on you, I wonder if you're using the most suitable shade for your complexion? A good match shouldn't look so streaky even if you haven't nailed the proper technique yet. Just a thought.
I'm 56 and people often remark how "beautiful" my skin is. Well, it's not all due to makeup -- I take really good care of my skin -- but JI MMU definitely has been a key factor in making my face look as flawless as it can possibly look at my age.
Good luck! |

I bought the Jane Iredale Dream tint and tried it twice. I didn't like it at all, but then I'm not crazy about foundation in general. It looked like a tinted moisturizer when I was putting it on, but then it dried and looked like a kabuki mask. And made every little line on my face visible. I've tried giving it away to three different friends and they've all hated it. And the smell! It was completely new, but smelled like it had been left out in the sun for three years.
I like a lot of Jane Iredale products, so I was pretty disappointed.
You've probably realized by not that I don't recommend it. |

Thanks a lot m.april. I did try using the foundation (I should note that the MMU wasn't JI but another brand - maybe I should try theirs)on a moist face but what happened is probably best described as more coverage in some areas and less or none in others. Sort of like it adhered to some places but not others even though the moisturiser was applied all over the face.
I am interested in trying MMU again, particularly as my daughter has acne and it was recommended for her. If I can see that it works well, I could also get some foe her. |

Sorry m.april, I meant to ask you how long it took for you do apply the MMU. It sounds like it may take some time. I usually have about 10 minutes in the morning to apply my makeup, so I may need more time. Also, with the brushes, is it a JI eyeshadow brush that you use? I have a brown mark on my right cheek that I always have to use a concealer on (IPL didn't work), so I assume I will still need to do that.
Any other advice about techniques like dotting or wiping with the brush will be appreciated.
Did you find the handi brush didn't do a good job or just that the eyeshadow one works better on you? TIA |

So sorry about all these posts. I've just re-read m.april and you said you got the eyeshadow brush at CVS. I live in Australia so I guess I'll need to find something similar. Do you know of any MAC brushes that are similar to the one you use so I can get a rough idea of what it is?
Thanks again. |

Do you use a primer with your MMU? I apply moisturizer, then sunscreen, wait for them to absorb (about 10 mins while I do my hair) then use a kubuki brush to apply pearl powder to prime my face then the MMU. I dip the brush into the MMU to only get a small amount then swirl it in a small bowl (or you can use the lid of the container) then lightly buff my face. I may repeat depending on the coverage I need. Then I gently pat a microfibre cloth on my face just to get rid of any loose powder. I don't have get any streaks or blotches doing it this way. |

miss anna, I'm like Magica -- I don't really like typical foundations but finally jumped on the MMU bandwagon with JI Pressed Base (I sometimes use the Loose at night which has a bit of a glow) and never looked back. But after starting out with the JI Handi Brush and all-over application, I realized I didn't require so much coverage and began to apply only where I truly needed it, thus the switch to the CVS brush that I just happened upon by chance. For some reason, I can't post a link to that actual product on their site but it's there if you go towww.cvs.com and do a search for Essence of Beauty. Scroll down the first page to the Dual Use Eyeshadow Brush and you'll get a look. MAC doesn't make a dual-tipped brush that I know of but they have all sizes and kinds of eyeshadow brushes!
I'm often in a rush too and don't have a lot of time to bother with it all, and so I can't always wait for my SS to absorb. But for me it's blush that sometimes looks uneven when this is the case. That's when I go over any darker/blotchy areas of blush with a bit more of the Pressed Base. But the MAC 187 (it's the one with the white bristle tips) does a good job of applying less product than usual blush brushes I've used so this isn't a big problem for me.
Another thing to consider for blotchiness is a Blending brush. I have one by Laura Mercier that's very soft (hardly ever use it though -- don't need to). It's similar to the MAC 182.
I wish I coud offer you comparisons between various MMU, but Jane Iredale was the first brand I tried and it was so excellent I stuck with it! I definitely think your daughter could benefit from using a quality MMU -- it conceals better than any creamy products I've tried, stays in place, and has never clogged my pores. Jane Iredale is relatively expensive but it lasts a long time so it's worth the price for me. The Pressed Base is particularly good for oilier skin, BTW.
DianaP's suggestion about doing other things while moisturizer absorbs is a good one. But blotchy application may also be caused by uneven skin texture and if this is the case with you, you may want to consider some regular but gentle exfoliation if your skin can tolerate it. Or maybe lightly blot your moisturizer before you apply MMU???
Again, good luck. It took me a while to figure out how to work with MMU too. |

Diana P mentioned the pearl powder. I don't know what it is either. Is it a JI product? |

I have the Dream Tint and I have only used it a few times and stopped because I found it made my face look cakey and it made it look dry. I found the coverage was decent but it looked awful on my face once it dried and I noticed that I couldn't put it on my face and get all the areas without it drying up and then I would have to add more, I just didn't like it. I love all their other products but not this one. |

I recently bought this and I'm really impressed with it. I've never used a tinted moisturizer before, but I use JI loose and pressed foundation powders so I figured this was worth a try. I like it for weekend days where I am just running errands and don't want to do the whole weekday makeup routine. Since this only has SPF15, I first apply my regular face s/s, wait 15-30 minutes for it to sink in, then Dream Tint. I sometimes top Dream Tint off with a light swipe of finishing powder (BE Mineral Veil, for now). The Dream Tint gets a powdery finish to it after it settles on the skin, so I don't always need the MV. |
