I generally assume that anything is better off refrigerated but now I'm not so sure.

Do you refrigerate avocado oil? I've noticed that it does harden refrigerated, but it melts again when it's at room temperature. Does the oil lose anything when it's refrigerated?

From my experience, I think that tamanu oil should *not* be refrigerated. It definitely hardened, and then not all of it melted back at room temperature. I know that anything with salicylic acid should not be refrigerated. But argan oil should be refrigerated because even refrigerated, it's still liquid.

Should tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate be refrigerated? (I assume so...)

The beautiful thing about 'Avocado', and many other oils, is that they are pure, without added junk and preservatives....The negative, is that some can get rancid after a while..

I just keep all of my oils in the refrigerator, and decant just a couple of ounces at a time to keep on my vanity, in pretty little decanters. Avocado oil solidifies when refrigerated because it's loaded with wonderful lipids, but as you noted, it liquifies quickly again, when at room temperature..

I also keep all of my actives, including any variety of vitamin C, in the refrigerator.. (My vegetable bin, with the humidity control set to the lowest point, keeps it all in good shape.)

Thanks!

Then I'll just continue to refrigerate everything, with the only exceptions being the previously mentioned tamanu oil and salicylic acid (juice beauty blemish clearing serum). I do something similar- I have these little lip gloss tubes that I bought from lotioncrafter for the oils that I'm currently using. The lip gloss tubes hold about 1/3 of an ounce.

i refrigerate my oils, but like Kassy, keep a few ounces (of the ones that solidify and that i'm using daily) out in room temp and easily accessible. Personally, I also do this with my tamanu oil. I also keep my hydrosols in the fridge.

Whoops, Nemue I am realizing that you also keep a small amount of your oils out of the fridge, ...so I should have said, "I do too, like Kassy and you!"

Oh no!..I am trying to respond to these threads way to quickly today..as I have much I need to do..and so keep making mistakes. I mean 'Nimue'..so sorry to call you 'Nemue'..Oh MY!...well, at least, I feel more personally connected to you now..having really focused on who you are for a bit!

Meanwhile I looked up tamanu oil at Mountain rose herbs..and they say that tamanu oil stores well under any conditions..except extreme heat.

I also think refrigerating is the right course for things too -- I wish I *had* put my Vit C toner in the fridge. Before I knew about the oxidation issues with it, I just kept it with the rest of the beauty supplies (on a vanity outside the bathroom). But now that it's turned dark brown, I'm thinking it's not so good anymore! Sad Fortunately I learned from EDS to put my Vit C serum in the fridge! You'll also find argan oil and rosehip oil hanging out in my fridge.

I do the same thing and just take out an ounce or two at a time... I think ginnielizz was dreaming about a mini-fridge in her bathroom. How great would that be?! Laughing

I've kept my Vit C in the fridge and it hasn't changed color. I also have a small amt near my vanity. I wished I had kept my Emu Oil in the fridge, tho. Those oils do go rancid. I have some avacodo (not opened yet). That will go in the fridge after it's used next.

i don't put my skin care products in the fridge because i don't like the cold cream feeling on my skin. i am also too lazy to walk to the kitchen to get my creams.

On the mountainrose herbs site, wwwmountainroseherbs.com, in their product explanations, they include info about the stability, fragility, etc. of their carrier oils..along with their nutritive and healing properties..

so for example, they recommend keeping rosehip oil cool..since it can easily degrade and lose it's healing properties..and macadamia nut oil is sensitive to light and will degrade accordingly whereas tamanu and meadowfoam oils are more stable and don't need refrigeration

anyway..I hadn't been paying attention to this info..and just putting everything in the fridge..so this is a happy revelation to me.

The skin care products that I use daily, I keep them on my bathroom vanity (in shelves, drawers, etc.), but sometimes if I find a good deal, I buy in quantity, and the extras have their own drawer in the garage fridge.
