To help lighten a bit of sun damage on my forehead I've decided to try the SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5% cream. I've never used a retinol product before so I want to start slowly. I plan on using it every other night. My question is, would the lower concentration be the best to start with and still be effective and would using an 8% glycolic acid cream by Neostrata be too irratating to use on the off night that I don't use retinol? Thanks. |

I would start by just using the retinol product every other night for about a week to make sure you don't have any reaction. Then I would use it every night and if there are no problems, use it for 6 weeks. then start on the glycolic product by using it every other night to see if there is a reaction, if not then use it every night for 6 weeks. After the 6 weeks of retinol and 6 weeks of glycolic, give your skin a break from both for 3 or 4 weeks. These products do cause cell turnover and you need to give your skin time to recover. |

Thanks so much, that sounds like a great plan. Do you know if this percentage of retinol is likely to cause peeling? I just want to know what I'm in for! |

It will really depend on your skin. This is only a low amount so in the majority of cases, there won't be any peeling. But if your skin is really stressed from the over use of actives or you are very sensitive then you may have a small amount. So long as you start slow and let your skin adapt, then it should not be a problem. |

Hi, I know everyone is different but here's my two cents!!
I have sensitive skin so I started with the Afirm 1. It was so gentle, I was applying under my eyes nightly right out of the box. And my under eye area seems to burn easily. I am trying to figure out which stronger forumla to buy now but I would not go lower if I were you.
I think it would be best to start with the .5% and do it every other night and then increase it if you tolerate it. |

It really does depend on the skin, I have tough, oily skin and I started with 1.0 and use it every other night. I rotate it with MaMa at night and MD Forte in the day (Forte products are glycolic based) and have experienced little to no peeling. In fact, I'm looking for a stronger retinol now. |

I think I'll give it a go! When I use this retinol cream at night, would the spf 15 in my Pur Minerals makeup be enough sun protection in the day time...I'm almost always indoors. |

If you are mainly indoors then the SPF15 will be ok. But if you intend to be outdoors for any length of time then you will really need good sun protection like a hat and SPF30. |
