I just returned from the Caribbean, where we got married. Since I'm 10 weeks pregnant, I didn't really stay in the sun that much (I hate that anyway!), but despite that, and despite slathering on spf50+ (LRP with PPD28), I ended up with some hyperpigmentation marks on my forehead, which I'm so NOT happy about. But what can I do against it at this time?
I know retinoids are out of the question while pregnant, but is there anything else that's worth looking into? My skin is already used to glycolic acid, but that doesn't really help with hyperpigmentation, just against my terrible dryness. Apart from this, my skin is well-behaved.
I tell myself I shouldn't be thinking about such details right now, but once vain, forever vain. |

Well, I just wrote a piece on the ProFractional Laser and I see that one of its uses is for melasma. (It didn't say if it was OK to have this done while actually pregnant though and I didn't investigate further as it was a short piece.) The other popular treatment seems to be Cosmelan, which works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme that helps form melanin. I didn't use any skin creams when I was pregnant. When you think you can taste garlic within five seconds of rubbing a clove on the soles of your feet, I'd be scared of anything inappropriate getting to my little one. |

Some woman get pregnancy mask that is actually a hormone thing and will fade when your hormone balance out. However, MelaD by Laroche Posay is a good cream for melasma, but I'm not sure if its safe for use during pregnacny. Remember its always better to be safe than sorry where the health of your baby is concerned so be sure to always discuss anything like this with your OBGYN. |
