I use tazorac and was at the dermotologist yesterday and she said never use it during the day because sunlight destroys its effectivness (I had never heard that before) but she said it is a waste to do. I have always used it at night anyway. |

If you're using an over-the-counter (non-prescription) retinol product without stated percentage of retinol, the chances are that the concentration of retinol is quite low and sun exposure is not likely to be a major problem, especially if you apply a good sunscreen (minimum SPF30). If there is a stated percentage (e.g. 0.5%, 1% retinol), then it would be better to use it at night.
The ZO Skinhealth line of products includes retinol in its daytime usage product, apparently Dr. Obagi believes that a small amount of retinol during the day can help to keep the skin turning over, in addition to stronger retinol or prescription retinoid products at night. But then, everyone's skin and needs are different. The Obagi regime does "work out" the skin more than other skincare routines. |

Never, unless it is so early in the morning that it's 3 am and I'll wash it off at 6 am and put some sunblock on.
I do that sometimes if I get a nasty break out before a special occasion. |

Oh my goodness. I was living in Sunny California and only using my OTC retinol in the am. I was constantly wondering why I was only getting a moderate effect with a creme that people were in love with.
Now that I have moved back to the midwest..NO SUN..ha...I'll even try it at night. |

Most skin treatment regime with Retinol as active ingredients are recommended to be applied during night time, which is decided by the probable sun-intrigued damage when absorbed Retinoids is illuminated under sun shine.
Actually, I was the victim of this improper usage. I got deep tanning(or damaged) after applying 2-month long time of Retinol serum under SkinMedica without enough sun protection. |

You are really just wasting product to use any vitamin A in the daytime, the sun destroys its effectiveness. Plus, with vitamin A use you should definitely be using a sunscreen in the day. |

To get around the degradation factor, you can apply it an hour before going outdoors. Don't forget to be dilligent with sun protection though! |

from what I've read, it's best to use retinol products at night due to sun sensitivity that these products can create. I'm sure there are ways to work around that by using very effective sunscreen, but I've never tried it in the morning. |
