Well....in the words of that little girl from Poltergeists........."They're heeeeerrrrreeee". Two years ago I started getting mild symptoms of peri-menopause - i.e. a once to the day monthly period became sporadic, I was having ANNOYING hot flashes, bedroom antics started to tank with my husband, etc....then I went 4 months without a period only to have it start again and stick around for two years - symptoms gone. Well....around 8 months ago my period disappeared again (and hasn't been seen since!) and I am having symptoms to beat the BAND - most especially the hot flashes - holy cow. I will be 46 in April. Kind of early - but what are ya gonna do?

I made an appointment with my doctor who is wonderful - she just gets it. But I wanted to ask if anyone has found relief with natural remedies? I am in the middle of Dr. Lee's book - loaded with info - so I know there are some great tips in there as well.

Also - has anyone tried a product called "Femestra"? I found that online - it looks intriguing, and I'm almost at the "order now" point - but wanted to see if anyone here had tried it.

And finally - if you had to choose one - would you take Fish Oil or Flax Seed Oil? Or should I not choose one and take both? Laughing (I HATE swallowing pills and stuff - gag reflex, so the fewer things to take the better).

Thanks so much!!!

Maria

I would not take any hormone that the body didn't identify with. Bio-identical hormones is the alternative. With that route you have to find a doctor who specializes such as an endocrinologist. Than theres lots of blood tests in the beginning so that the doctor can design what you ONLY NEED. For more information watch Oprah on 29 Jan when Suzanne Somers will be talking with Oprah for the whole hour on bioidentical hormones. Suzanne has had great success with them.

I started going through the same thing about 6 months ago. Here are a couple of suggestions

1 - Chaste tree berry (also called Chaste Vitex or Vitex Agnus) is believed to help the body produce progesterone. It doesn't contain any hormones, has no side effects and no contraindications with any drugs, so if it doesn't work for you the worst you will have lost is a bit of money. It's available in capsule from any chemist and some supermarkets, or tincture form from naturopaths or online. It's best taken in the morning on an empty stomach. Taking this has considerably decreased my symptoms, except my period cycle has continued to remain shorter than it used to be.

2 - Check out the work of Susan Weed.

Lots of info regarding menopause and herbal remedies.
