got an email about this today. what do people think about it?
here's their copy:

Our PhytoNutriv™ Lightening Serum has been designed to act as an alternative to 2% or 4% Hydroquinone formulas for the treatment of facial and hand hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone has been found to be cytotoxic (kills skin cells) and has been banned from cosmetic formulations in several countries due to its carcinogenic properties. Our PhytoNutriv™ Lightening Serum does NOT contain Hydroquinone. It lightens skin through a combination of Kojic Acid, Arbutin, and natural, plant-derived pigmentation suppressors such as Licorice Root, Mulberry and Bearberry. This formula combines these active ingredients in safe, yet high concentrations and with a transdermal delivery system so they easily penetrate the stratum corneum and are absorbed deeply in the skin.
Diligence and patience are a must for a successful skin lightening regimen. It can take several weeks or months before the catecholase activity of tyrosinase may be reduced to the point that visible lightening of the pigmented areas is obvious. Topical skin lighteners, when used in conjunction with peeling agents (alpha or beta hydroxy acids) and sunscreen can and do work over time to lighten freckles, sun-spots, age-spots, and other forms of dermal & epidermal hyperpigmentation.
Key Benefits:
Non-hydroquinone formula
Fragrance-free
Provides gradual & uniform skin lightening
Can be safely used over extended periods of time (months or even years)
Provides extended suppression after hyperpigmentation treatments
Contains high levels of tyrosinase inhibitors
Utilizes safe ingredients to help produce low-irritation skin lightening
Key Active Ingredient:
Kojic Acid – This plant-derived lightening agent and antioxidant. It gently & safely lightens skin through tyrosinase inhibition, while decreasing melanin content & scavenging free radicals generated within tissue.
Arbutin - Powerful tyrosinase inhibitor. Arbutin is capable of inhibiting 39% of melanin synthesis within the cell.
Licorice, Mulberry & Bearberry (Uva-Ursi) Extracts - A gentle, yet effective blend of plant-derived tyrosinase inhibitors & supressors. These extracts are highly concentrated and contain lightening agents capable of inhibiting up to 50% of the activity of tyrosinase.
B-Glucaderm™ (Beta Glucan) - Mushroom-derived polysaccharide effectively reduces skin irritation & provides oil-free hydration.
Hyaluronic Acid - Anti-aging skin molecule holds 1,000 times it's molecular weight in water. Plumps up fine lines & wrinkles.
To use: (AM & PM) - Apply twice daily to dry, clean skin. Dispense 1-2 pumps into palm of hand & apply to skin with fingertips. Safe for use in eye area.

im always looking for something to beat hyperpgimentation (from post-acne marks and also a sunspot on my cheek) but im a little iffy on something that purports taking at least 3 months to work- how long would that 1oz last, anyway? my 1oz of their 02 spray, though it was nice, barely lasted me a month! |

I haven't tried this product, but it contains nearly every ingredient known to (or thought to!) help with hyperpigmentation other than hydroquinone. The only question I have is that my understanding is that arbutin and bearberry are chemically very similar to hydroquinone, so I wonder if the questions about hydroquinone safety would also pertain to those ingredients.
As for your other questions, I would guess that 1 ounce would last quite a while, assuming that you spot treated your problem areas instead of smoothing it over your whole face.
And, as for taking months to see results, I think that is unfortunately the case with any topical treatment for hyperpigmentation. But it is definitely worth it to persevere. By the way, vitamin C serum is also helpful long term in lessening hyperpigmentation, at least in my personal experience. Hope this helps.
Do let us know if you decide to try the PSF product. Lots of us are dealing with this issue. |

| According to the PSF website - it can be used for years and is also safe for the eye area - bonus for me. Will EDS be stocking it? |

Ooh can't wait to see your review! I got the email about this and was offered the introductory price but I'm on a strict no buy anything budget for a couple months until I catch up from Christmas spending. It sounds positively yummy! |

I was just wondering if anyone has purchased this product? If so, have you experienced any decrease in pigmentation or any adverse reactions? I am always looking for something to successfully reduce my much despised hyperpigmentation.
Also, will EDS be stocking this product? International postage prices from the manufacturer are a shocker. |

| I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews on this, the ingredients [as with nearly everything from this line] look heavenly! But it can take a long time to see any results from lightener. I used Murad's lightening serum [with hydroquinone] and it took me the full recommended 3 months of use before I saw a lightening, although the freckles on my hands still haven't completely disappeared. I continue to use Murad off and on for the last couple of years to make these go away but it's a long process. |

| I wouldn't expect quick results from this serum; will probably order it along with their eye treatments I've been craving |

I'm not surprised if they claim that the serum will take 3 months to see a difference. Actually I'd be more skeptical if they said it took a few weeks or something.
Plus, that seems to be the second product on the market that has such a huge list of whitening/brightening ingredients! I'm using Meladerm and gotta say I'm pretty disappointed with it. This is going to be the next thing I'll try when I'm done the Meladerm for sure. Even though the ingredients are relatively the same, it's all in the way you make it! |

its been a month and i still havent noticed much difference. my age spot sits languidly on my cheek, taunting me for not being able to find anything to even fade it in the slightest T^T
i wanted to mention that the pump that this product comes with has some issues, i think i'm going to email psf about it. sometimes it has trouble getting the product out, sometimes it squirts too much. at first i thought they'd sent me one that was almost empty because of it! |

I am going to give this serum a try. I don't have any hyperpigmentation to speak of. However, my eye area is a tad darker then the rest of my face.
I also have some freckles on my declotee. I am excited to use my Quasar with this serum. As PhytoNutriv is clear the BQ or Quasar SP can be used with this it.
Will get back to you in a month or so.

amami aya, recently I had a similar problem with the eye gel. PSF was fast getting back to me. These pump containers are airless. To solve the problem try firmly tapping the bottle on something. This should release any present air bubble. |

Kareberry,
Meladerm didn't work for me either, although I thought it was a good moisturiser. |

| I am really wanting to hear how well this product performs for others. I received a sample of it in my last PSF order and I have been using it on a couple age spots that I have on my cheek. Its only been a week or so, so no results yet for me. |

| I also bought a sample and have been on it for three weeks now. No noticeable results yet, either. I did email customer support and they said that with the sample alone, I probably won't get rid of my hyperpigmentation altogether. They did say the sample *may* be enough to start breaking the hyperpigmentation down down. I have a couple of areas (small) I'm spot treating. Nothing too big. |

some of my acne scarring seems to have lightened a bit since i started using this in january but honestly i really only started seeing results after i started alternating with mama lotion so i'm not sure which product is working out or if it's a combo.
my sunspot still isn't fading, though |

| I've been using this serum for more than a month, but only at night time. I notice the improvement on my acne scars, but not sure if any result as I seldom go outdoors during such period as I just have my baby born 2 months ago. |

You know...hydroquinone is the most powerful lightener on the market (besides something like monobenzone which causes irriversable pigementation destruction ie induced vitiligo) and not everyone has good results with hydroquinone. So while a "natural" product may be less irritating, it's probably not as effective, because arbutin and bearberry are very similar to hydroquinone (which i believe plants produce as a pesticide/anti-fungal or something..it's a naturally accuring compound).
Things like niacinamide + glucosamine may be an alternative though, I've seen sometimes with IMPRESSIVE amelioration of melasma and pigmentation. |

I have been using this around my eye area for a few months. Happy to say the area is lighter. It takes patience and consistent use of this product to get results. Before I purchased it I was aware it is not an overnight miracle. I did repurchase. |

| I have been using a sample of this about every other night, but didn't notice anything. I am also impatient and know that lightening serums can take a bit. I can't really tell if it is working, but for the past week I have used it every night. I'll post my results if I see a difference. |
