I know the recommended dosage is 1/4 teaspoon for face and neck each. I'm curious how many people can actually tolerate that much product on their face on a daily basis. Which brand do you use, and do you get clogged pores? |

I use Avene Emulsion spf 50+ (ppd 20) everyday, rain or shine, going out or staying in, no matter what. In the winter I only apply once, but during summer I obviously use a lot more and more often. |

I've never actually measured it out, but I'm pretty sure I use at least as much as the recommendation, given by how quickly I go through sunscreen. (Devita) |

i use very minimal sunscreen as i don't like the sticky feel of something thick and creamy on my face. |

I measured it out once and now I eyeball it. I probably apply more like a teaspoon to just my face everyday.
I use Sofina UV Lucent. It's very good. No white cast (or a very slight one), not greasy or sticky or heavy-feeling, and doesn't clog my pores as long as I remove it fully with a double-cleansing at night (DHC cleansing oil + foaming face wash). The only bad part is that I have to buy it from overseas. |

I think I am using adequate amount for my face, but often I skip on my neck. Its just hard to apply a mineral SS on the neck, given the white cast. |

I probably use less in the winter (and probably more in the summer); but then, I always apply Colorescience Sunforgettable powder suncsreen in Almost Clear on top of it or as a finishing powder anyway. So, I guess, I still get adequate protection. |

I use 2 pumps of LRP sunscreen. It's enough for my face. |

I use LRP sunblock and it's quite watery, so I use about 1/2 tsp for my face. But I'm lazy and apply only once in the morning and don't reapply, whatever the weather. I use a lighter and lower protection one for my neck. |

I use LRP SPF 60 sunscreen. However, I don't like to use it everyday, because it is white and a little stick. |

For me it depends on how thick and opaque the sunscreen is. I prefer to use more water sunscreen and probably use about the recommended amount of that. When the sunscreen is thicker and has zinc (?) in it, I tend to use very little. |

But have you guys read that new Allure article that says not reapplying sunscreen may be as damaging as not using sunscreens at all? I brought my tube out with me today with the intention to reapply and totally forgot haha |

Don't get me wrong, but I think we're totally nutty obsessive about this sunscreen business.
I think I wear an adequate amount and apply accordingly..
The type and amount of application are going to vary between a winters day when I barely go outside and a summer afternoon when I'm hanging out at the lake or the park.
I think if we just use common sense..we'll be ok.
I don't know about anyone else but I know I didn't get my cute little sunspots from walking to the mailbox.
Reapplying sunscreen only makes sense in the right scenario. I'm busy living a life here.
If I'm outside all day I'm going to be well protected. If I'm not..I'm not sweating every little flash of daylight.
I guess we all don't have a vitamin D deficiency for nothing |

I definitely use a 1/2 tsp for face and neck combined. I have combination skin which is quite shiny, and yes sunscreen does make my skin look shiny, but I find a light dusting of an oil absorbing translucent powder gets rid of the shine and means I don't always have to blot excess oil off my t-zone half way through the day.
As to us being paranoid about sunscreen, I totally agree. I don't reapply sunscreen most days, unless I am out in strong sun all day. I've given up (for the most part) on physical sunblocks because they gave me blackheads and crater like pores, and gone back to chemical sunscreen. For everyday use I now use Olay Complete for sensitive skin with spf 15+. Just over 2 years ago I switched from using spf 15 to spf 30+ due to all the press about sun damage. As a result three weeks later my skin was a wreck - red, blotchy, irritated with a couple of new age spots and more broken capillaries than ever before. The dermatologist said I had developed a sensitivity to chemical sunscreens and that because of the use of 30+ sunscreens he was seeing this more and more. I had to use physical sunblocks for nearly 2 years for my skin to heal. The downside was crater sized pores. Now I'm fine with chemical sunscreen ingredients as long as I avoid octyl methocinnamate (also called ethylhexyl methocinnamate or octinoxate), and my pores have shrunk considerably.
I've also found using an antioxidant serum or spray under sunscreen during the day adds an extra sun protection hit. |

I never leave the house without sunscreen. It is the best thing you can do for your face. |

I never leave the house without at least 1/2 a tsp of sunscreen on my face and neck. I use Dr Hauschka SPF 30. I don't rub it on just sort of pat it on my skin. It looks like a shiney white mask at first but then it seems to sink in a bit and I follow up with a dusting of the Dr H body silk which leave my skin looking matte.
I guess it depends how big your face is as well, I have a big old face so I need a lot of coverage! |

I have oily skin too, and I'm looking for a sunscreen that wouldn't make me worse, more shiny. Most of the ones I've tried, are so rich in its texture, and I don't like the feeling of an mask with heavy creams. I do wear make up foundation every day, does it work well together?
I've googled this brand, but I do not seem to find the one with spf 50. Were do you buy your product?

I can't tolerate that much sunscreen aside from the fact that it's making face white - so only do that when I go out to play on weekends.
Otherwise I just have my mineral powder foundation that has zinc oxide that I can just reapply it more -
This is what I want to try this summer

I fall into the 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon category... under my makeup, then mineral makeup on top protects my face.
If I'm outdoors in the heat for long periods of time, expect some strenuous activity or head to the beach, I'll do without makeup and reapply sun screen frequently.
On hands and arms that receive constant exposure, I reapply very frequently... Then again, I don't have to worry about messing up the makeup on my hands! |
