Help! Been silly - cut the edge of my lower lip last week on some crusty bread - it healed fine but was concentrating today at work and the dry skin over the tiny cut was bugging me sooo.....you guessed it I picked (Yuk sorry) Embarassed . It took off a larger bit of skin including unaffected skin with it and bled and is now VERY sore and weepy and looks horrendous! It's not big but on a lip it feels huge and everytime it dries it re splits when I talk or smile :-& . Why can't I learn NOT to do this!!!
Is there anything I can put on it to speed up the healing?

Poor thing- lip is terrible place to get a cut!

Could rub in Vitamin E capsules, or Pawpaw ointment works well on lips. Hopefully it will heal fast anyway...terrible crusty bread!
Take care

It's fantastic for lips- maybe its Australian? It sounds Australian...Anyway, brand is Lucas' Pawpaw ointment and is best lip balm ever! Should really post a review, but I thought it was available everywhere. If you want some can possibly send it but not in time for current lip crisis- am sure it would help cut lips, but also makes un-cut lips lovely and smooth.

Hope you feeling better soon!

Lucia,

the lip area heals pretty fast. I once forgot to set a timer when cooking pasta so I took a spoonful of it from the pot to test it and I got a bit of water on the spoon and then it went down my lip and chin and I got the worse burn!! Like you, I couldn't talk or anything for days.

I used some special burn cream and polysporin (doesn't taste great but helped it heal without getting * spam *)

Ooooh, ouch! This winter I scratched my lip in my sleep, it was a horrendous, bloody mess! It hurt so badly, such a sensitive area. I used that liquid band-aid stuff because I couldn't drink anything or eat comfortably, I had to do something with it to seal it up. The liquid band-aid didn't sting, taste bad or anything and lasted for at least 24 hours, it comes in a little dropper tube with disposable foam tipped dispensers. It healed up pretty quickly, although I still have a faint scar.

If Paw-paw ointment isn’t readily available, I’d mix a couple drops of Tea Tree oil with some Vit-E oil and use that to rub on my lip/s as often as possible. That’s actually how I was finally able to heal a couple of blisters/sores that I had in the corner of my mouth a couple weeks ago after trying all kinds of other remedies. The suggestion came from someone here on EDS and I’ll be damned if it didn’t help it start to heal almost immediately. The tea tree oil is an antiseptic and it can help kill all the germs so that it doesn't become infected because remember that they say that the human mouth has even more germs in it than a dog's mouth even though Fido has been licking his own cajones all day!! You really want to be careful about infection in such a delicate place as your mouth/lips....

I had my lips ripped into shreds when I was at the dentist getting a clamp stuffed into my mouth

I tried putting on jojoba oil (you can try any heavy oils like avocado, evening primrose, ROSEHIP!!) over night and it healed quite wel in the morning. Just try that for a few days..

I've bitten my lip ever since high school, my situation, i wouldn't reallyconsider it hunger related, bcuz I'd just be thinkin about sumthin, either bfore or after I had eaten and I'd be chowin down into ma lip. I describe it as sumthin subconcious, cuz it'd be long before awakening from my daydreams, ponderings, train of thought - whatevr- that I'd find myself eating away at my lip - especially the right side.
lookin into the mirror lately, i've noticed that the left side of ma lip looks bigger than the right side. And after i'm through gnawing at the right side, and it dries, it starts caving in and the area is a little on the dark side- almost black. Is the Paw-paw ointment able to cure that or do i have to seek medical help - or some form of lip surgery?

WOW . . . this is a long post!!srry!!Lol!!!
