Hey all,
I've been using Origin's Modern Friction for several months now, and am loving it.
I've just noticed a couple of small 'bumps' on my cheek where I have been exfoliating, and I'm assuming the exfoliating is the cause.
I'm going to stop for a few weeks to give my skin a break, but is there anything else I can do? Is this typical for exfoliation/dermabrasion?
Thanks |

Hi J,
Are the small bumps milia (little white, hard bumps)? If so, these can indeed be caused by abrading the skin. I have had these appear and have had to puncture them with a sterile needle. I'd leave it for a week or so and see if they just disappear. |

I believe that excessive milia is what is happening to my skin by exfoliating. I didn't think I was doing it too much, but I now have milia in places I have never had before. I too may have to take an exfoliation break. Unfortunately, I don't think a week will do it, as milia are hard to eradicate once they take 'root' under the skin. |

Hi Antonia,
I think that's exactly what they are. Did they go away for you? How long did it take?
Thanks! |

I suggested waiting to see if they go away. If they are milia, they likely won't as they are covered by a layer of the stratum corneum (outer skin layer). I took a very fine beading needle, sterilized it in boiling water and very carefully poked at my milia until I'd torn the skin over them and could squeeze the plug of sebum out. You can also get these little devils through not exfoliating, so it is best to strike a happy medium, and also to make sure that the exfoliant you use is not made from scratchy particles like fruit pit grindings. |
