Hi to all the Aussie posters. Obviously this forum is available to anyone lucky enough in this world to have internet. But not all products available on this site or talked about on this site are available in Aus and some products we have in Aus are not available over seas. So I thought I'd start a post for Aussie gals and guys to post about the products that they use, what they like about them, and what results they have had.
I'll start.
At the moment I am really into vitamin c products. This has been well covered in this forum and is perhaps what got me interested. Right now I am half way though a tube of Ultraceuticals vitamin c face cream from the pharma range. I only use it once a day in the morning under my sunscreen and really think that it has given me a brighter complexion. But i am thinking of switching to a serum as sunscreen and a moisturiser can be quite heavy on the skin. |

Which Ultraceuticals Vitamin C cream did you use? I've been thinking of trying one but they have a few different ones and I'm not sure which is best.
I really like their Sunscreen 30+, just the plain untinted one. |

I thought I should also mention 2 other Aussie brands that I use and enjoy - Model Co and Becca. I use the Mode Co Face Base and it's my favourite 'value for money' primer, their mascaras are also great. With Becca I've used just about everything. I love the range of colours in the stick makeup and concealer. |

I don't use any brand name products any more. I use DIY serums and buy the ingredients from overseas - I really wish there was an Australian supplier. I also use a variety of oils, Pomegranate, Rosehip, Tamanu, Argan and, most important of all, Aussie Emu Oil. |

Keliu, there's a place called New Directions in Marrickville (Sydney) that sells essential oils and some cosmetic ingredients. I don't think they have as wide a range as the US stores, but they do have some and you'd save with the $ exchange rate and shipping.

Hope the link works, it's my first time trying to post a link. It didn't work when I joined but it should do now. |

Miss Anna - thanks for the link - some useful stuff there. Yes, the current exchange rate has really curbed my spending at the moment! |

I've actually enrolled in a couple of their workshops because I'm very interested in formulating my own products (have been for years, just thought I needed a Chemistry degree). I feel more confident being shown how to do something to start. There are great recipes on EDS but I'm hoping I'll get a bit of information on what not to put together and which quantities etc. I have just received Carol Demas book and that looks really interesting. |

Quick reply to miss anna. The Ultraceuticals cream that I use is from the Pharma range and is called Ultra C Sheer Facial Cream 10%. I really couldn't justify the price of the 20% one. I have also read on another forum that it can be heavy so I went with the 10%. I bought it at price line.
I have foud that if I just wear foundation over the cream it is fine, not heavy or oily. But if I add sunscreen to the mix then it can get too heavy, especailly on hot days. I guess it depends how heavy you apply all products. If you only wear light foundation then it would sit well.
So I guess it depends on what skin type you have. If it is prone to being oily I think a serum would be better, especailly if other products such as sunscreen and foundation are added. But normal to dry skin could handle this cream well. |

Yep me too. Unfortunately we need to buy alot of our actives from overseas and the exchange rate sucks. I also buy my really cheap retin a from alldaychemist. |

New Directions is excellent - I've bought from them a few times. They only charge you what the actual postage costs are too. |

Thanks Moonface. My skin is combination but not too oily. I usually prefer a cream but I'm not sure which C cream would be best from Ultraceuticals. I'll go to Priceline and try the testers.
Mishey, I assume the retin a is prescription only. Is it a generic brand? Is the percentage lower? |

Sorry Mishey. I noticed in your signature you make your own C E Ferulic. That's one I want to make. Do you use a recipe from EDS? I notice that Ferulic Acid seems to be out of stock on all the ingredient websites I've looked at. |

Hi anna. I make my C serum from the recipe of Kassy's on page 3 of this thread.

The retin a you don't need a prescription for if buying from overseas pharmacies. It's a generic .05% strength for only a couple of dollars a 20g tube. A brilliant deal. |

Thanks Mishey. I'll try that vit C recipe. Re the retin a, I had a look at the website. Did you have any problem bringing it into the country in terms of customs?
Keliu, I couldn't find the FA on skin actives before but now I have. Thanks. |

Thanks Mishey. Just one more question, I notice they have a .05% and .1%. You're using the.05%. Have you thought of moving up to the .1% now or is the .05% enough. I was thinking of getting the .05% to start and maybe later ramp it up (depending on how my skin reacts). |

I have used both 0.05% and 0.1% cream Retin-A and my skin tolerates both very well. However, I recently purchased the 0.1% gel formulation from Alldaychemist and found it to be much stronger than the cream formulation. So when you place your order, take into consideration the fact that the gel is stronger than the cream. Also, it's better to start off with a weaker strength and work your way up. |

OK I'll buy a couple of the .05% creams. They ask for my local doctor's phone number. Do they call the doctor? I'll need to tell him that I'm ordering for skin care purposes. |

This australian website sells a limited range of actives. Please note, I have not bought from them, so don't know what they are like.

No they don't phone them, I think it's just their law that they have to ask for it.
Also I've heard many times that the .05% works just as well as the .1% just without the added side effects of serious redness and flaking. Of course you'll still have some redness and flaking for a couple of months when you first start till your skin adjusts to it. |

Hi, Keliu. I wonder if you would have the list of ingredients of the retin-A cream and gel from Alldaychemist. I am interested in the base ingredients. Thanks! |

The Gel Retin-A 0.1% from Alldaychemist is called Tretinoin Gel USP, A-Ret Gel 0.1% - Composition: Tretinoin USP...0.1% w/w. In a Gel base...q.s.
The Cream Retin-A 0.05% I purchased in Australia. It is called Retin-A Cream, Tretinoin 500 micrograms/g contains Butylated Hydroxytoluene 1mg/g. HTH |
