Why is obagi so expensive? From what I am reading renova has an incredible 93% positive feedback on makeupalley...it can give the same results for only $20 on medsmex.com, what am I missing about the excitement of obagi it seems expensive to me when renova can do the same thing for much less. |

For a lot of people, Renova alone does not improve hyperpigmentation very much. Also, if it does work on the hyperpigmentation, it takes a LONG time to get the improvement with just Renova (like Retin A, etc. up to 1 year for improvement).
With the Nu Derm system (I am guessing this is the obagi product you are talking about?) you are combining hydroquinone, AHA, and Retin A and while the system is extremely harsh, the results are dramatic and happen in about 4 months. HTH! |

I totally agree with what Rileygirl posted!! I used Retin-A or Renova for a few years before I did the 18 week Nu Derm regimen. Obagi Nu Derm really amped up my results and finally got rid of some pigmentation issues I had for years from chronic use of tanning beds in my youth.
I am now using Renova or Retin-A mixed with Obagi's blender for maintenance. Obagi made such a big difference for me I am considering doing the whole regimen at least once a year for a big boost to my skin. For me the expense of the Nu Derm regimen wasn't much more money than all the other useless products I had been using. Obagi Nu Derm works wonderfully, especially if you have pigmentation issues. |

I used Renova for two months and I did not notice any improvements of my acne scar. But since my demetologoist suggested me to use Obagi nu-derm, I saw the improvement in two weeks. |

I have a stubborn patch of melasma under my eye and at the end of it and a tiny patch on forehead could I just use obagi there or do you have to put it everywhere? |

It is really best used all over the face, lucyluc. But, I would guess you could test it out on your melasma and see if it helps you (and that way you would know if you want to use the products on your entire face or not). |

Lucy, you might also want to look at Nia24 (I am testing that now) or Vivite Vibrance (I had goods results with that)...both are less irritating than Nu Derm and don't contain HQ. |

lucyluc, depending on what they recommend for you and why, you could always take their recommendations and buy the products you want on line - instead of at their office. That is an option at least. |

yes I thought about that but I am sure they hate it when people do that! I will probably purchase some stuff from them or pay a consult fee for their time thanks riley girl. |

Critic, I am thinking it has been 2-3 years off and on with Nu Derm. |

I have acne scar and I'm considering obagi because of the good reviews but my skin is a little sensitive, so I'm wondering if this line will be suitable for me, as they're very expensive, I just hope not to waste money or shall I consult a demetologoist first? |

have you ever considered the Obagi C Rx System? I have searched here, not many postings on the C system. |

Looco, definitely consult a derm first. Nu Derm may not be appropriate for your skin, or they may put you on a different protocol due to your skin being sensitive. The best way to start Nu Derm is by going to see a derm!
Critic, I used the CRX line a while ago. It did give my skin a nice brightening, and faded freckles a little, but I am older and wanted the anti-aging benefits of the A (plus I had a lot of sun damage to get rid of!). The CRX line is really for people that are younger and/or do not have a lot of sun damage. Hope that helps. |

I actually think Obagi costs LESS and does MORE in the long run than any other skin care line out there. I'm on week 20. I decided to do 24 wks before doing maintenance b/c I wanted the best possible skin and didn't want to have to do the whole routine over again at some point.
I really believe this will do more for our skin than all those very experience (think LaPrairie, Chanel, Revive, LaMer, etc) lines could ever hope to do - they just have nicer packaging. |

I feel the same as tsjmom. I can guarantee Obagi will work excellent on my skin, but not sure for the other expensive brand. My only concern for Obagi Nuderm is:
1) sometimes it is really very dry and red, I have been on/off using it for many years.
2) I don't have sun damage, only use it for anti-aging, is it too aggressive?
3) still afraid to use them for fine lines under and around my eyes |

I have just placed my order for Nuderm, and they have shipped. If I ask you earlier, I think I will try the C system.
What do you think about ZO? If the main ingrient is retional, why is it so expensive? I can simply use Retin-A. I believe the money goes to branding and marketing? |

My personal opinion, Yes, way too aggressive for just anti-aging with no sun damage and/or pigmentation problems. Why not just use a retinoid, topical C, and sunscreen for anti-aging? I definitely don't think one needs to be on HQ if there are no pigmentation issues! |

I ordered generic Renova online after reading rave reviews on MUA. I was using it to treat fine lines + leftover acne red marks. Renova totally wrecked my skin! It clogged it like crazy and I ended up with 4 HUGE cysts about 5 days after using it. I'm currently using BP to dry the zits out (they are now dried out, only the red mark remains), and am using RAM Mon/Wed/Fri and Alpha Hydrox 10% Enhanced Lotion Tues/Thurs/Sat to help w/ the fine lines and hyperpigmentation. It's too early to see if it's helping, but at least I am not breaking out anymore from the Renova. My skin has never broken out that badly in my life! I am now only using the Renova on my undereye to help w/fine lines. It seems to be smoothing the area. I figure it can't break me out under my eye! |

I have been using the entire Obagi Nu derm system for about a month now and see no change whatsoever. I used the blender with .1% Retin-A. I'm not red, irritated, or peeling. My pigment almost looks a little worse. Does anyone know why this might be?
Thanks! |

I only peeled a little bit for the first week. After that, no redness anymore, but my acne marks did get lighter. I have been on nu-derm for about 1 month. I guess the reason that i did not get the dramatic reaction may be that i was on tretinoin to treat my acne for a month right before i use nu-derm. My skin had peeled a layer while i was using tretinoin only. Were you using tretinoin? I am not sure if it is the reason or not.

Hi Lapcas,
I think it's pretty normal to not see a lot of changes in the first several weeks and I think in some people the problems (i.e. pigmentation)can get worse before they get better. If you go back and do an "Obagi" search on this forum, I think you'll find several unique Obagi experiences for a variety of posters. It seems that some people have amazing results pretty quickly and then there's some of us who just keep plodding on and realize a slower progression. Please don't get discouraged! I'm just finishing my 10th week and while my skin is improving, I've still got a ways to go!!
Keep researching on the forum and keep asking questions. I've learned so much from this forum and people are so willing to offer their encouragement and share their experiences. |
