Hello everyone!
I did an EDS search for "bio oil" and "stretch marks" and came up with 180+ something results... and I needed a little refinement...
So, here's the deal. I'm 8.5 mo preg. with my first baby. Just YESTERDAY I noticed my 1st preg. induced stretchmarks (two). They're still dark, brand new & I'm hoping I can do something NOW to prevent them from getting worse, spreading or possibly becoming permanant.
Now, I realize I might be dreaming, but that if there was ever a group who might know the answer, it'd be you all.
I did a coupla internet searches and found a few people singing the praises of a product called "bio oil."
I also just ordered some strivectin. Thinking about adding Vit-E oil.
I would LOVE some advice before I purchase EVERYTHING on the planet.
Currently (and throughout my preg.) I've been drinking about 10-12 glasses of water daily (minimal soda etc), taking fish oil and flax oil pills a few times a week, eucerin lotion after every bath/shower. This month I added 'aveeno bath oil' instead body wash.
My previous experience with stretch marks: some on my hips/thighs from being a teen, & breasts from 'becoming a woman'... all have faded to VERY light, not noticable, and nothing to be ashamed of. Im olive/lt tan... halle berry colored.
I'm not concerned with treating thse old marks, just the brand new (still dark) ones.
Please keep in mind. Retinol & Vit. A derivatives are to be avoidedduring pregnancy & while breast feeding. So, although I know they're supposed to be one of the FEW things to actually treat stretch marks, they're a no-go for now.
Okay - so.... whatcha got?
P.S. THANKS |

When my friend was pregnant, she rubbed Palmer's products on her tummy every day.

They have a specific stretch mark cream too.
I've used the Palmer's body care lotion before...I really liked it.
Inexpensive and effective |

As someone who just had her second baby on the 23rd and has a body FULL of stretchmarks to show for it - I have to say treatments tend to work less than you'd like. They are a function of your skin accommodating growth and as such nothing will truly prevent them from happening if the pressure on the skin is strong enough. That said, keeping your skin as elastic and hydrated as possible will help it stretch more before striating.
I do a regimen of Fish oil and Flax seed oil internally with meals, lots of water (which is sounds like you're already doing) and topically use oil (jojoba, grapeseed, avocado, olive oil... you name it and it works!) to keep everything smooth and hydrated.
Strivectin isn't a good idea DURING pregnancy and arguably not very useful afterward either. They WILL lighten with time and they also diminish in textural appearance and become more smooth too. But it's not something worth worrying about too much - you may only get a few or a belly/thigh/breast/hip-ful like me, and trying to prevent them is more stress than it's worth I think! |

I totally agree with everything Artic_Mama advised..
I would only add that the old wives tale of rubbing cocoa butter on your belly everyday, couldn't hurt.
And a big old congratulations to you, as you await your little bundle of joy.. |

The only thing I have read about that "might" work would be some emu oil. |

White Camelia oil is supposed to help with NEW stretch marks. I don't think anything really will help older ones. |

Echoing Arctic_Mama: I think the key is moisture...my friend started using the Palmer's before she even started showing. She ended up with no stretch marks.
Genetics plays a role too...and staying hydrated will help as well. |

Hmm, I really do sympathise. My stretch marks appeared right at the very end of my second ( and last) pregnancy. I thought I'd got away with it... but no..
Anyway. The best thing for them is derma rolling, and using cp's and emu oil post rolling.
You wont want to do this until after you've had your baby and things have settled down for you.
You need your wits about you to dermaroll!
When you have time, check out the thread on dermarolling. there is a lot of info to take in.
Good luck! |

You want to be careful of chemicals during pregnancy, even topically. Plus, it is advised for TREATMENT of stretchmarks, not prevention. That's an important distinction.
Here's what the box says:
Safety Information
For topical use only. Before using StriVectin-SD on a regular basis, test StriVectin-SD on a small area of your forearm. If extreme redness/rash or itching occur, discontinue use and call our customer service department at: 1-800-898-5153. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Not for use by children under 18 years of age unless directed by a doctor. Not for use by pregnant or nursing women. Before using this product consult your healthcare provider. If your healthcare provider has any questions regarding this product have him or her call: 1-800-898-5153. Klein-Becker
I'd be shocked if any dermatologist would recommend this or a similar product to a pregnant or nursing woman. While topicals tend to be safer than an internal treatment I'd err on the side of caution while pregnant.
It is also arguable whether or not this works any better than something like cocoa butter. There's been some small studies done, if I recall, that suggest it performs only minimally better and yet costs significantly more than other basic remedies (over $100 per bottle just ain't worth it in this house!).
Good luck with your pregnancy AND stretchmarks - really, they fade faster than you'd think |

Oh my gosh. How relevant! In the shower today I noticed really strange stretch marks on my side (upper though) and stomach. Has anyone else gotten stretch marks from the pill (specifically diane 35)? |

You can do so much to prevent them, but once you get them there isn't much you can do to get rid of them. They will become white with time. |

Actually, I disagree. I'm having amazing results getting rid of existing (many years old) stretchmarks with the dermaroller.
However, I've heard really good things about the Mama Mio products for while you're pregnant. |
