What product is good for tightening the pores on the face?
I am a guy and not familiar with the basics. But I did some research and tried something in this order
1-cleanser (aveeno clear complexion cleanser)
2-mask (st ives)
3-toner (alcohol free neutrogena toner)
4-moisturizer (nivea skin firming)
skin was shining, removed the balckand white heads-
BUT dot like pores seem to appear as small visible dimples on nose and cheeks.
Pls any tips? any products to tighten the dot like pores? |

you want products which are astringent as this tightens the pores and reduces sebum production.
Facial Astringents stimulate the skin system but can also dry the skin out so you would require a good moisturiser also. Facial Astringents should only be used on oily skin or open pore type skin. |

I don't actually think you can 'tighten' your pores in the true sense of the word; however, I think certain products can make your skin feel tight because they are drying to your skin. If you want the appearance of smaller pores, I think the best thing to do is to ensure they are clean and free of blackheads/debris. I've had good results from vitamin C (Vivier and DDF work for me)and anti-oxidant products (Priori and Clinique work for me) and I steer clear from clogging cleansing milks--great for taking off makeup, but not so great for my pores. I also do a cleansing mask for oily skin--right now Jan Marni is my fav. |

Thanks! I long for small pores, but I know that's just not going to happen, so I try to do the best with what I've got!! |

I found that the Dr Hauschka cleansing clay mask works really well at clearing out the pores; may take several applications and I do steam my face first to open the pores. (others have said the same thing in their reviews and comments). I use their other products so maybe that helps as well at not clogging them up. HTH |

If your large pores is more age related then keeping the pores clean is not enough. Using Vit A, C to stimulate more collagen growth and thus tightening the facial skins your pores will apprear smaller. |

Hi PinkLeader,
Exactly! So what can do is to clean our skin carefully and maintain the status such that it will not be worse in the future...
To snickers,
Maybe you can try Clarisonic? This tool will help you wash your face better. And also, you can do some research on this product.
Good luck,

PinkLeader and vv, I used to think that was true. Have to say from experience, I have successfully kept mine "shrunk" now for several years with the Epidermx II and Chrysalyx. Pore size can be changed with products. I use to have large pores and scars and I can keep them very smooth and small. I have blackheads that are just gone now, and scars. If I really massage the Chrysalyx in my face sag pulls up, and my face stays tight, which is a good thing. Snickers, they are wonder products. EDS carries the NaturDerm products, they are silicone, paraben free anti aging products and are organic. They are on sale now at

some of the packages are 40% off, big help right now! Great company too, they donate part of each sale to feed and educate underpriviledged children. |

I have read that you cannot change your pore size, you can just make them less noticeable. Retin A usually is recommended by the docs for that. |

harriet, do you steam your face with Dr.H steaming bath? I wonder what this product does and if it is necessary. |

Hi Aiva. Yes I did buy the Dr H steam bath concentrate. I'm not sure why it works (if it does) but maybe the herbs and oils get mixed up with the steam and attach to the skin and maybe penetrate it or contribute to the purifying and softening. I used the steam/mask combination yesterday and again great results with my clogged pores; they were almost completely clean. I noticed that they were getting more dark and filled though and wonder if their cleansing milk is too heavy or the regenerating face cream I got from them. Have you tried the clay mask?
I am going to switch to something for anti-aging, firming and moisturizing as I think this line is better for younger skin. I am using the 28 day ampules for sensitive skin and they have regulated my oily t zone and my face is less red but the rest of my face looks dehydrated and the pores look larger because of this. Also had breakouts which I only rarely have. |

To deal with pores you must first be sure that your skin is impeccably clean. Cleansers and Masks can help clean your pores out, but once your skin is clean, and you still have pores, then you need to try something new.
Another option is toners or C serums which can produce a bit of inflammation and make the pores APPEAR smaller temporarily.
C serums that boost collagen may also create a more permanent fix. But Vitamin C can also reduce elastin, which is arguably just as important as collagen for skin firmness: http://www.jbc.org/cgi/reprint/272/1/345.pdf
Therefore, to increase collagen and elastin over time, you may achieve smaller pores with Retin A or Tazorac. Also, your skin will be less oily, and will be more exfoliated, all of which make pores appear smaller too. So I really think Retin A/Tazorac is the way to go, but you need a prescription.
Avoid the use of oily creams which I have found exaggerate the appearance of pores. |

Out of curiosity, does Differin not work for increasing collagen and elastin? And out of Retin A and Tazorac, which is more effective in achieving smaller pores? Thanks! |

Tazorac was shown in a study to be more effective at reducing pores. At a concentration of 0.1% cream over one year, it reduced several signs of aging by up to 67%.
Differin does work but I dont think it is as effective as Retin A and Tazorac. It is definately a good option if you have sensitive skin and could otherwise not use a retinoid. |

what kind of pores do you have?
the ones due to lack of water?
the ones due to aging or the ones due to over oil skin |

Have to put my 2 cents in for Retin-a as well.....this is the only thing that has made my pores nearly invisible and I have been using it about a month and a half....great stuff! |

Seriously??? I've been using Tazorac for over a year with results nowhere near yours!! I am SO jealous! Are you using Retin A Micro, or just Retin A? What concentration are you using? Thanks! |

Yep....it seriously shrunk my pores to where I can barely see them and in such a short time...I'm amazed! I am using retin-a .05% cream and wish I would have started using this a long time ago!!!! |

interesting how we all get different results. I used Retin A for a couple years but my pores were still visible. Then I started Tazorac 0.1 and my pores shrunk down nicely, and it didnt take too long either. |
