Found this on the BBC site.

Dr Richard Weller, senior lecturer in dermatology at the University of Edinburgh, said: "This is, as far as I am aware, the first properly conducted placebo controlled, double blind trial of an over the counter cosmetic product. Boots are to be congratulated for doing this. |

No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum will be the new name for No7 Refine & Rewind Beauty Serum that is currently available the Netherlands, Norway, Thailand, the UK, the United Arab Emirates and the US. |
I used it for about 6 months...it felt great and packed a punch. I knew it was strong because I could only use it on my chest 2x a week. |

I picked up one of these in Bangkok last week. It's not a line I would normally buy, but I keep hearing good things about this product... and it was 30% off so thought I'd give it a try.
I'm wondering now if I got the right product? It's labelled "Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum", rather than "Intense Beauty Serum". I'm thinking this might be the old version? |

According to the news accounts, it contains retinol, peptides, and white lupin extract. Anyone have any more specifics on ingredients? |

flitcraft - i just went through the trash, looking for the box ... unsuccessfully. I do recall looking at it before I tossed it, and it was mostly those multi-syllable un-pronounceable ingredients that I have no idea what they are |

It's still £50 a bottle though - I prefer to stick with No7 as it's under half the price! |

I really want to try this from hearing all they hype, but Dimethicone makes me break out. If anyone else who breaks out from silicones has tried this, can you let me know if it did indeed break you out? |

This is sold at Boots right? Saw lots of raves too, but didn't get in the end cos the packaging looks boring.
Any comments for those who've tried? |

Boots sued for its anti-ageing product claims
By Katie Bird, 05-Jun-2009

Skin care brand Skin.ny has taken out legal proceedings against UK retailer Boots as it believes the company misled the public over its Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum.
Following media success on the back of a BBC Horizon programme, Boots’ anti-ageing serum Protect and Perfect was put to a clinical trial run by the University of Manchester.
Positive trial results were reported in the British Journal of Dermatology in April 2009, but Skin.ny claims Boots has misled the public by making false claims about the study.
According to Skin.ny, Boots claimed that the ‘No7 Protect and Perfect was the first anti-wrinkle cream to be proven to be effective in clinical trials.’
Skin.ny claimed this is untrue. It said its Radical Restructure Complex underwent clinical testing that was also published in the British Journal of Dermatology in 2003.
In addition, according to Skin.ny the 2003 study shows the Radical Restructure Complex to be more effective than Boots’ Protect and Perfect serum.
“Skin.ny also gives faster, broader skincare results. Skin.ny achieves more in three months than Boots No7 does in six – Skin.ny delivers an additional 10 per cent in wrinkle reduction,” the company claimed.
Improvement in wrinkles in 12 months
According to the Boots study, after 12 months of product use, 70 per cent of subjects using the test product experienced improvements in facial wrinkles, compared to only 33 per cent of the vehicle group.
This led the researchers to conclude that the test product decreased facial wrinkles significantly in comparison to the control.
Within the study the authors refer to a ‘relative lack of published long-term studies to demonstrate product performance’.
“Very few over-the-counter cosmetic 'anti-ageing' products have been subjected to a rigorous, scientific trial to prove their effectiveness,” said one of the authors Professor Chris Griffiths from the University of Manchester.

How much improvement are we talking?
Also did it just work on sundamaged-caused-wrinkles, or the ones caused by repetitive motion etc.?
I sent a mail to the professor conducting the study and he said "that's a good question" and they didn't even check for it. |

I think it may depend on ones age as to how quickly results are seen.
ETA: Perfectionist, that was an excellent question. Too bad we won't find out the answer to that one. |

I'm 26 and dont have any sun damaged skin that I can tell - I had a few lines under my eyes and on my forehead that were starting to annoy me slightly - when I started using this serum day and night, they vanished within days. I imagine this would not be the case for a lot of people and that its purely circumstantial, but I feel lucky to be one of the ones it does work for! |

Vee26:
Nice to hear you got rid of yours, I'm struggling with 3 of mine on my forehead and I'm only 20! they've been there since I was 16-17.
I never sun bathe, never use a sunbed so only cause can be repetitive motion for 16 years.
All my skin elsewhere is smooth and younger than other 20 year olds.
I've used this boots No7 for a week, no results to report.
Even use a dermaroller 0,5 before, so the product will penetrate deeper.
As I'm so young I would think I would see results fast? |

That's a great question...beats me! Honestly probably because I was reading the raves abotu 302 at the time. I may actually revisit this, since I happen to have some on hand! |

The Professor that conducted the study does say though, "Prescription creams containing retinoic acid were still better at beating sun damage wrinkles than over-the-counter creams." So, in other words, you're better off sticking with presription strength Retin-A. |

That is most certainly from moisturizing/hydrating aspects...it is not possible to correct wrinkles in a couple of days. |

This product is an updated (packaging wise) version of a previous Boots one which I tried and found totally useless, dont waste your money. You will find lots of likewise reviews if you google, espcially in the UK where the previous version has been around for a couple of years. |
