I just went to Trader Joe's and picked up GREAT SLS free shampoo called Trader Joe's Revive Spa. It's filled with great stuff like Rosemary, Sea Kelp, etc. I also picked up the conditioner. It's only $2.49 each. I'm impressed. They also have tea tree oil and jojoba oil. They have a lot of yummies, too. I bought a pack of lo-main stir-fry that comes with chicken, veggies, and noodles, and a pack of orange chicken. Can't wait to try. Their soy chips are delicious. I love this store.

There're lots of TJs around me, so I am spoiled because I can get to one either from work or home easily. I can even walk there at lunch. I think it's only 1.25 miles away from work. Great exercise. I will definitely let you all know how I like their shampoo and conditioner. I just received my Jason shampoo and conditioner from Vitacost, and was a bit disappointed that there's some dimethicone in the shampoo, but I'll try them, too. I will write up a review of all these after I try them.

Very saddening isn't it? While when I was living in Maryland, they had many.. Confused

I am tickled to say I WORK for Trader Joe's! I loved the products for fifteen years, and was a little apprehensive that when I started working for the company, I woud discover the dark underbelly of Trader Joe's. It's happened before when I pursued special favorites.

I am pleased to say: there is no dark underbelly to Trader Joe's.

ps -- That frozen mandarin orange chicken you got is our best-selling product nationally, after the $2.00 Charles Shaw wine (two-buck-chuck), of which the Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon are excellent -- and the others are not bad.

I have heard Trader Joe's was a great company to work for and was thinking about getting a part time job there once they opened up(I'm still in school). You have convinced me to head over there as soon as I see the 'now hiring' sign Smile

Sidda, my girl friend works for TJs now. She likes to exaggerate stuff and so I am not sure if she's exaggerating this or not, but she told me every person at TJs makes at least $50K a year including a bagger or cashier, and everyone has to have a bachelor's degree to work there. She's a PR for TJs, and she told me that they're opening lots of new stores in other states.

I can't wait to try the orange chicken tonight (drooling now).

Piffle. Baggers do not make $50. Rolling Eyes

HOWEVER, store managers make well over $100K. And all full-timers, yes, make over $50K.

Part-timers are... part-timers (students, moms), and are paid far above minimum wage, have FULL HEALTH INSURANCE (mental, dental, and vision) for theselves and their families for 20 hours a week, and have 15% of their annual wages matched and put in a retirment account by TJs.

I started part-time, just for the health insurance, frankly. That, alone, is worth about $700 a MONTH, to me, thanks to some pesky body chemistry. I have received a $2/hour raise in one year, and lost 20 pounds from running and working so hard. And had a blast and a half. I'll probably go full-time someday, just because... why not? I've never had a steady income (I'm a writer). It might be fun, for a while.

Younger employees often do not appreciate the benefits/perks of the job. But, hey, we also get 10% discount on TJ products. And lots of free meals.

And free t-shirts. Laughing

Of course, it all also depends on your region and manager, etc. There IS a company mission statement, etc, but I'm sure working for TJs in Atlanta is very different from working for TJs in Hollywood.

Spreading out soon in MN, NY, and GA.

TX and FL will be major markets. Eventually.

TJs is in our area but not nearby. I go when I can their products are nice and reasonable. I especially like the Curry Simmer Sauce and Korma sauce. I add coconut juice and fresh ginger and they make a great fast meal.

I never looked at the shampoos but that one sounds great. I wish it was closer than 20 miles away.

I myself have yet to try their conditioners and shampoos, but I hear really good things about them for the quality and price.

I must say, I'm really impressed by how TJs treats their employees! We have a TJs nearby, but in all honesty, I think I still prefer Whole Foods and Wild Oats....

Liz, I'm not sure if the price of items is the same in all markets, but here in L.A., we call Whole Foods "Whole Paycheck" because everything is so danged expensive!

Sidda, WOW that's awesome! It'd be SO worth it just to have a part-time job there! I had heard TJ's was amazing that way, but I had no idea until you provided us with that info.

I'm in Los Angeles and am totally surrounded by TJs. I can think of 4 of them right off the top of my head - one across the street from my office. I gave up a legal assisting job making a very nice salary to finish my degree at UCLA, and am now working for a sole pracitioner lawyer who hates paying me ANYTHING. No insurance, no 401(k), no paid parking, and he complains every time he signs my check, and I'm barely making ANYTHING at this job. Such a jerk. I should quit and go work for TJs! It would be a heck lot more fun that having to arm wrestle my cheap-o boss for my paycheck (which have actually bounced before!).

When my family moved out of state, one of the first things my Mom said to me was "I M I S S my Trader Joe's!"

I'll second that. I went to Whole Foods once, and never returned. TJs is my store, so close, and everyone is so nice. I was asked by 3 diff people last night if I found everything. I can't even look confused for a minute. Someone will come running up to me and ask me what they could do to help stop me from frowning. (Ok, they didn't put it that way....just "May I help you?")

Also if you bought something from them and don't like it, you can take it back and they won't ask you why. They'll give you a store credit. It makes you feel confident to shop there.

LOL, Mermaidgirl, you are too much! Actually, we call it "Whole Paycheck" out here too. (DH grumbles about it under his breath everytime we go! Good thing he loves me so much, haha!) The thing is, I lived across the street from WF for 4 years in college, so it spawned an * spam alert * that I can't break to this day. When it comes right down to it, I like the fact that Trader Joe's is cheaper, but unfortunately, it doesn't cater to vegetarians like WF does, and it doesn't carry any of my staples like tofurky deli slices for sandwiches, vegetarian mushroom gravy, etc etc. Also, WF is the only place in the US where I've ever found fresh lychees (Used to eat them for breakfast every day in Singapore and I miss them... Crying or Very sad

), and I love that they carry all of my fave beauty brands such as Giovanni, Alba, Burt's Bees, etc, so as you can see, WF is kind-of my Mecca, LOL! Not only that, but the WF I used to go to in MN had a Jamba Juice right inside. I know what you're thinking, no one in their right mind would buy one of those over-priced, 2000 calorie smoothies, but they also sell something called matcha shots, which are shots of matcha (powdered green tea) mixed with soymilk--- good for what ails you!!!

I am a Trader Joe's fan too! Every time I go, I find something new that I just can't live without. My latest favorites are their Low-fat Parmesan Ranch Dressing in the refrigerated section. (right with all of the veggies). It is fabulous and truly low fat. Something like 2-3 gms of fat per serving. I will never be without this awesome dressing in my refrigerator. Also, I discovered a pre-made chicken salad in the prepared food section yesterday and brought it home for lunch. It was really delicious and not too heavy at all. When I was finished, I looked at the label to see how much damage I had done (ie the fat content!) and was shocked to see that it was only around 3-4 gms of fat for a 1/2 cup serving. When I looked closer, I was even more shocked to see that the chicken salad was made with yogurt! Let me tell you, I am a huge mayo fan (sad to say, I know) and I couldn't believe I was fooled. It was 4.99 for the tub, which I believe would give me enough for at least 3 lunches or so. Great, great stuff!
