Hi Shoba, I was using the skin lightening gel from Murad. It contains hydroquinone and did a pretty effective job of lightening up hyperpigmentation on my hands, but they warn you not to use it any longer than 3 months. Then I started hearing about skin cancer concerns so I stopped using it. I hear that kojic acid is also an effective skin lightening product with fewer side effects than hydroquinone, but haven't used it personally.

If you do a search on either whitening or kojic acid, you'll come up with a great information to begin your research.

P.S. Don't be discouraged by lack of immediate response on the DIY forum, this forum isn't quite as busy as the Skincare and Product Review forums...Very Happy

Good luck!

Athena

I've been using kojic acid on my face and sadly have seen zero effect.. No scar lightening at all.

I would NOT use hydroquinone. I had a very bad experience with rebound pigmentation and there are also toxicity issues.

Some of the other lighteners should not be used for extended periods (like kojic acid).

I take DDF glycolic lotion but some in a 2oz jar added 1/2 teasp. ALA, niacinimide and glucosamine and 1/4 teasp. of Kojic acid. I added a bit of green tea extract to solubilize and it turned into a nice gel. It has done a very good job removing age spots. Do not use this in the morning as it can sensitize you to sun exposure.

Does anyone know what's ALA that Sharky mentioned above?
