I'm looking for a good soap to use in the shower-- I've found that most of the traditional soaps make me really itchy. Even Dove seems to make me feel crawly. Maybe I'm buying into the sodium laurel sulfate thing, but I've always had touchy skin...
I have tried some glycerine soaps, which were okay-- but my husband hated them because they didn't lather. I did some fancy french soaps (like pre a provence?) that are supposed to be gentle, and I liked them, but they are expensive to use in the shower, where they melt. I've tried some Tom's of Maine soaps, but I'm trying to find something that I can buy easily and that doesn't cost me $4 a bar!!
I'd prefer not to have 2 bars of soap (his and hers) in the shower, because I like to pretend that I'm not high maintanence.
Anyway-- does anyone have any products to suggest? |

Hi Brooklymom,
I use and love Goat's milk soap which you can easily get at walmart. Hubby likes it really well too and it is about 2.80 a bar here in canada.

Sherri,
Goat Milk Soap.....Who makes it? I wonder if that is available in the states. I have never heard of it before. Is it moisturizing? Good lather? With winter coming it would be nice to have a soap that isn't drying.
Thanks,

Hi, have you tried L'Occitane Shea Butter soaps? They are slightly more expensive but last ages and don't dry your skin. |

Hi brooklynmom,
I am not sure who makes it but it is a nice clean smelling soap that I find moisturizing too. It is sold in the nutrition healthy section of walmart, not sure what else to call that area lol.
If you can't find it ask I know they sell it in the US too.

will hubby use a body wash? My boyfriend and I both use a Dial Daily Care ALOE. I get itchy from soaps too, I find the dial good and Jergens firming body wash..but I didn't think hubby would try that one... |

The emu oil lady that you turned me onto makes soap with emu oil and goats milk. I bought a little bar that I have at the sink...don't know how it would be in the shower. I think she has more. Her link is:

Just checked and she sells a 2 0z. bar and a 4 0z. bar...inexpensive too.
Another idea is Basis soap. Its a very gentle superfatted soap. I've always had it in the house and, coincidentally, its very good at getting spots out of clothes, etc. |

Wow-- these are really interesting suggestions. I'll certainly check out the goat's milk soap, that looks interesting. And the emu oil/goats milk soap looks like one to try too.
My husband would not use "body wash" in eleventy billion years. When I met him his entire regimen consisted of ivory soap: he washed his body, his face and his hair with it. The man still won't even use shampoo.
Perhaps emu oil and goats milk soap will be beneficial to his hair?
Isn't it amazing what you can justify when you put your mind to it? |

L'Occitane Shea Butter soaps, I like it a lot, especially the Lavendar scent! The shea butter scent is OK, but not that special at all in terms of "aromatherapy"!
Havent used soap for a real long time since the liquid soaps became popular, but this particular soap is really really *enjoyable*, it foams easily and it doesnt dry your skin at all plus it's got the great scent .. try it! |

Okay, I just tried "Grandpa's Shea Butter soap" with Lavender and Vanilla. I'm not sure where I bought it, but I just found it on drugstore.com for $2.49 a bar. It's 3.25 oz, so it isn't huge, but if it doesn't melt in the shower too fast, I may have a contender here.
It is lovely!! And certainly less expensive than the L'Occitane brand.
Are there other shea butter soaps out there that folks are using? Anything wonderful and a bargain to boot? |

I've been using handmade soaps for years now. Especially shea butter soaps. As far as glycerin, the ones I get have tons of suds. I just use a plastic sponge "thingy" and rub the soap over it and poof major suds. I got my friend who lives in NYC hooked on them. She said before she couldn't stay in the shower very long or else her skin would itch all day. Here is the link to the place where I get my soap, body lotion, teas, herbs, etc. Other than this place it's my second * spam alert *.http://sadiesherbalgarden.com/And no, I not affiliated with them I just love their products! |
