I'm running a half marathon for the first time ever this coming Sunday. I do want to look good in picures since this could be my last half marathon as well(I am thinking of sticking with the 10K) so need help in looking good and being good to my skin.

Base: Vivier 20% Vit C Serum or NIA 24 Skin Strengthening Complex

Sunscreen: Avene 50 SPF or NIA 24 SPF30 Mineral Sunscreen

Foundation: will skip

Mascara: Need suggestion since anything I tried in the past melts and gives me the racoon look.

Eyeliner: Need suggestion as well.

Thanks!

I strongly recommend ANNESA spf46 PA++ , it's safe and good.

For Mascara, I think Kiss Me is the only one can be waterproof.

When running a half marathon I wouldn't want to bother with worrying, whether my make-up is still in place... There is no mascara and eye-liner which would keep up, neither a foundation. Good SS is the only thing you need.

"Beauty Tubes" mascara by Revlon is amazing for working out. I ran a marathon last year and wore kiss me tubes mascara but the beauty tubes is much cheaper and works well. It does not come off when you sweat but with warm water it comes off effortlessly.

Also, (okay I'm athletic but vain) Smashbox gel eyeliner stays put through the sweatiest of workouts. I'm sorry for all the nay-sayers, but I want to look good when I'm running so there you go...
Btw, I actually like half-marathons better than the full 42 km. The half is not so hard on your body, but still an amazing accomplishment...plus you can walk the next day without feeling like you've been hit by a bus!

I would not wear any make up if I were you.
I don't think the make up can keep well if you run ran a marathon. It is worst if make up are melted......

Your vit c and s/s are great choices, as is the skipping foundation entirely.

I only use w/p mascara, but since I also use an eye cream I still get the raccoon eyes. What I've started doing in the summer is putting mascara only on the top lashes. I use 3 coats. It makes a huge difference in how my under eye area looks.

I agree with the Vitamin C - and then a top-shelf sunscreen. Maybe a lip protectant. Put a leave-in or other conditioner on the ends of your hair and multi-task!!!!

Why bother with make-up? If I were to wear mascara it would have to be waterproof and I'd only put it on the ends (tips). By the time the race ends - mascara isn't going to matter anyway.

I don't think eyeliner, no matter how water proof will survive a run like this. My sunscreen frequently makes my liner run, even my smashbox. If you do decide you must wear liner (and believe me I love liner) you had better take it for a serious test run with it first. Keep your lip gloss (I believe Neutrogena makes one with a sunscreen) in your pocket, and you can swipe your face at the end of your run and quickly reapply. I like the mascara recommended by catherine, but again, take it for a serious test run first. Let us know how you do!

Great W/P mascara is L'Oreal Double Extend - Waterproof. That's the one with two sides/steps - one to extend your lashes and make them look thicker and second where you apply mascara.

My suggestion - wear mascara only on your upper lashes and you'll look great! I don't ever wear mascara on my lower lashes anymore and find that that works just great.

Although I must say that L'Oreal Double Extend WP mascara is amazing and it doesn't come off with sweating. It easily comes off with a drop of Burts Bees Apricot Baby oil.

Good luck!

Try a tubing mascara, as others have suggested. Blinc's Kiss Me is a good one, but only defines and lengthens a little. It's definitely a rather natural look.

I'd skip eyeliner, though. I can't think of any (even gel ones) that would survive the combination of sunscreen, sweat and face-wiping.

I wouldn't worry about makeup, though. You'll look fab after finishing, though. There's nothing like a good, hard workout to make your skin glow!

Thank you for all the suggestions...I will only ran a half and it will be cool tomorrow at 60 degrees so hopefully, the w/p mascara will be ok after 3 or so hours.

So I will wear the Vivier Vit C which I love. what I don't know is if I can put the NIA 24 SS on top of the Vit C.

Thanks again.

LOL! Well... I wouldn't bother. But I totally get wanting a cute picture when you are snapped crossing the finish line.

I guess I would recommend something similar to stage makeup. If you're looking like a raccoon then yes, I'd go with waterproof mascara. (I'd wear false lashes on stage, so don't worry about smearing) Or perhaps you can use clear mascara. For eyeliner, I always... used wet n wild liner. It's cheap, and it went NOWHERE. Under the test of baking lights, and sweaty body.

Lips, get one of those no smear stains. Top with gloss.

A powdered mineral foundation would suffice. (and definately sunscreen)..

Now, I gotta wonder if you actually want your features to SHOW, and POP... 'cause then you might want to get a little heavy handed with application... 'cause regular daily wear really isn't going to offer much in the typical washout out of flash photography, especially taken at a distance. Again, I really wouldn't bother with this...

I think you can put the NIA 24 over the Vit C with no problems.

I would also suggest Mascara Blinc Kiss Me. It is waterproof and the only one that I can wear when I am at the gym. I wouldn't suggest to wear eyeliner or make-up.

I know you folks don't want to bother looking good when running a marathon (or a half, in my case), but I do!!!

Anyway, here's the recap. I used Vivier Vit C 20% serum, followed by NIA 24 SS. I skipped the foundation.
For my eyeliner, I used a cheap Maybelline eyeliner. It was fine. It did not streak. But the biggest surprise for me was the L'Oreal Double Extend Smudge proof Beauty Tubes Mascara. That thing was amazing! It made my eyelashes longer and it stayed until the next day (LOL, I was too tired to clean my face)....and no racoon eyes even this morning!
Thanks for the tips!

I'd definitely have to shower and wash my face after running a half marathon - no matter how tired! But congratulations to you! Glad you figured out what worked for the big day.

oops...I sounded grossed there, huh? But I showered! In fact, I also soaked in epsom bath for like 45 minutes before showering. But I did not "cleanse" my face in the real sense of the word (which includes using my Pretika Dermasonic Brush and aspirin scrub.

CONGRATS on finishing the half marathon
So, how did you do? Are you happy with the result? And - more importantly - were you happy with the photos? Any chance we'll see the picks? Wink
